ok, I'm new, lurk a lot. Decided to get Prisma pencils, baby oil and couldn't find stumps so used qtips. I was so excited, got the pencils (via ebay) yesterday and decided to go to work. Looked great last night, today I can see where the oil bled onto the paper outside of the stamp. Did I simply use too much baby oil on the qtip?
That could be the problem, but I have never had good luck with baby oil for the same reason even when using stumps. Could be the cardstock - try a different cardstock and see if it works better. Otherwise you might want to try some of the other options - I prefer Gamsol or turpenoid, but some seem to like goo-b-gone (I don;t like the smell).
the primsa pencils and use Sansodor (Winsor & Newton) liquid to blend. I found the Sansodor at Michael's with the drawing supplies. The stumps I use are from Taiwan (Hobby Lobby the ones at Michaels are from China).
Let's see--the paper is from Walmart (Georgia Pacific), and the ink is Memories.
Now, I am new to this too and hadn't tried the baby oil so I can't comment on that. The above stuff that I acquired is all based on the wonderful knowledge/experience of the women on this board.
I do love the way the images look once I'm done. So--I hope this helps!
I tried this two nights ago with baby oil, q-tips and my son's colored pencils on a scrap of watercolor paper. It didn't look that good because of the oily look around the area, and I didn't think I used all that much of the baby oil on the q-tip at the time. This morning, it doesn't look so bad, I can't really see the oily circle around the area, but still I wonder if this wouldn't, in the long run still be a bad thing to use for a scrapbook page.

Have you tried using a heavier weight on the watercolor paper? I used 140# weight watercolor paper. You can get it at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Works great.

I don't think its a good idea to use this technique for stuff on a scrapbook page either.
I tried it using baby oil gel and didn't get any oily residue or bleed on the paper, which I think was Georgia Pacific but may have been Stampin Up whisper white. Maybe it makes a difference to use the gel?
I use the baby oil all the time. I don't have a problem with an oily stain, but I use GP white cad stock from Walmart. I have also used the GOO GONE, it's ok but I think I will stick with my baby oil. I have never tried it with q-tips so can't comment on that. I do use the stumps. I love using my prisma's now where they had set for a long time unused. I even added 4 new colors over the weekend to my collection.
Try a different paper and buy a pkg. of stumps from HL, Michaels or AC Moore or where ever you shop. A pkg of 2 was under $2 at Michaels.
I think you will be better pleased with the results.
Good Luck
I think it's a matter of trial and error. I use baby oil gel with Qtips and stumps and sometimes I get a bit of a oil stain but it usually disappears by the next day. If it doesn't you just need to use less of the oil and play around with the amount .
Can someone share how you "blend"...do you color with the pencil and THEN go over it with baby oil? Or do you dip the pencil in the Baby oil? I literally have no idea how to "blend" TIA
You colour your image with the pencil crayon. Then dip your stump or Qtip into the baby oil/baby oil gel. Dab off the excess on to a paper towel. Then with the stump/qtip move it over the coloured area and blend away.
There are tutorials on SCS on the "Gamsol Magic" technique that shows you the entire method...only difference is that you are substituting the baby oil for the Gamsol.

A little dab will do ya! Tap off excess oil on a piece of scrap paper before beginning to blend. A swab really sucks up a lot of oil, so tap it VERY lightly into the oil, then tap, tap, tap on scrap paper.
I have not tried this technique, so have no personal knowledge to add - but here is a tutorial on a blog which may be worth a look - goes into a lot of detail. http://fred-she-said.blogspot.com/20...memade_22
I have always used baby oil. The first few times I did have a problem with using too much baby oil. You just need to keep trying until you get the right amount.
good luck.
