Crayon Resist and feeling guilty

I just STOLE my dd's white crayon from her crayon box in her room so I can try out this technique! Has anyone else done this or are you guys finding crayons sold in boxed sets with the white only?

I think I may get over the guilt of stealing my daughter's white crayon if my first crack at this technique turns out great!

LOL!

Did you know that you can use a white candle, too?! You can give her back her crayon now! (But, honestly, does any kid ever use the white crayon?) :?

Pagemaster 06-18-2004 10:54 AM

Mrs. Diffey, I know how you feel. Yesterday I was in my daughter's classroom helping to sort out the school supplies for the end of the year clean up. There were several white crayons, boy was I tempted. I know that the teacher is going to toss most of them because the kids will bring in new boxes next year. Why would they want so many used white crayons? Alas, the teacher wasn't there to ask, so I left those precious crayons (even though I know she would have told me to take them :D ).

You are not the only one who has raided poor innocent children's crayon boxes and stolen the precious white crayon. . . . besides, what is a better use for a white crayon than crayon resist? I can't think of anything!

rehaba 06-18-2004 11:22 AM

A few weeks ago I searched and searched for a white crayon. . .I ended up running to the store to buy one so I could try the technique. I COULDN'T MAKE IT WORK!!!!! I'm so sad. :( I still can't seem to make it work. Any tips?

cpbartlett 06-18-2004 11:41 AM

Rehaba,

Make sure that the crayon is wax. They have some on the market now made from soy and I found out that they don't work at all. Plus, I was told to use glossy paper, so I always make sure my paper is glossy.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

You can purchase boxes of 12 white crayons at DickBlick.com for $1.69 per box. Here is the link. Hope it works for you.

Mrs. Diffey I did the exact same thing! Only no guilt! What kid uses the white crayon anyways?

And Lacey, you are a better woman than I? I would have pocketed those bad boys and snuck out the side door! LOL!!

Thanks RICTM for that link!!!!

But, does anyone know of a place where you can go pick up just white crayons? I'm a little cheap! :) I don't want to pay 6.95 for a 1.69 item! :)

And I am guilty of stealing my poor nephew's white crayon. I babysit him all of the time, so he has crayons and toys..... in my stamp room. So, when I learned of the technique.... guess where I got my crayon! :) But, like most mentioned, he'll never miss it. It was the ONLY crayon that wasn't used yet!

White Crayons

Did you guys know that you can use other colors of crayons??
I just did a stamp camp and had a white crayon and a brown crayon and they both worked exactly the same. So now all you need to do is find the kids broken crayons and your all set!!!

I went looking through a bag of crayons that we have for our grandkids and the only color missing was white. Woe is me. Now I have to go out and buy a box just to get the white.

I work in a community center and just today I went througha big box of crayons and pulled out 2 halfs of white.

Great mind think alike...and sheme alike!

www.crayola.com for 64 ct box of crayons

Go to http://www.crayola.com/store/suggest...t_name=Crayons for direct link to special order box of 64 ct of white crayons.

True, you don't need to use white crayons. HOWEVER, this is easy, makes it easy to give each person their own crayon at workshops and is very cheap. I don't feel guilty about stealing or losing crayons - or giving them away when customers buy stamps from me when I've demo'd crayon resist!

HTH!

My demo had us use yellow and other light color crayons. Not only do they work exactly the same but you can see where you've been, a definite plus!

Crayons made with soy ...... what else are they going to put soy into next! LOL

JanTInk 06-18-2004 03:29 PM

To keep myself from stealing my children's crayons, I bought my own! That's right, a whole drawer full of every type of crayon Crayola produces, including the pearl brites, gel FX, Metallic FX and the great big anniversary box with the bonus crayons they put out last year! I don't let my children even smell them...my daughter is a crayon fiend and would have them gone before you could say "knife"!

Do I use them? I use the white one, LOL! I'm sure down the pike someone will come up with a technique that requires crayons and oh boy, will I be ready then!

JanTink, I have my own humongo box too. I use it for coloring on fabric for quilting. And that poor little white crayon was feeling all left out because it didn't show up on white fabric.
Now it has a starring role in my stamp room and all the other quilting crayons are jealous. Zero to Hero.

Furph's wife 06-29-2004 03:59 AM

If you don't have the white crayon or your kidos have thrown them out and you already have the metallic pencils you can use them! My upline had her open house for her stamp studio (lucky her :D ) and we made a card with this technique using the metallic pencils.

I have the hardest time with "reading and figuringout the directions, but someone can show me the technique and I will get it. I didn't realize how easy this technique was. Maybe if I ship the kiddos out and concentrate onthe directions I just might teach myself a new technique especially an easy one like this!

Jen Bruzdzinski 06-29-2004 04:23 AM

I stole my son's white crayon as well!! but it didn't work... the part where I colored with the crayon turned colors... IT LOOKED AWFUL!!! can someone post quick directions??? My first mistake was I was using US white and not glossy- is this the difference???
Thanks in advance!
Jen

srogers5 06-29-2004 05:22 AM

Resist

For the last couple of you asking, the technique has a tutorial under "resources". Enjoy!

djc 07-06-2004 08:21 AM

Joy, scroll down on that site. You can buy a box of 12 white crayons for $1.69. That's 14 cents a piece. The box of 64 for $8.99 also comes to 14 cents a piece.

The problem is buying just one thing at the Dick Blick site!
