okay, i really want to use some of these bottles for storing buttons; i think they'd look real cute with a ribbon tied and all my buttons separated by colors. but i remember someone saying that you have to do something to air them out, or clean them out so that the funky smell doesn't come back?? hope this is the right place to post this question, and i'd appreciate any help
I did not remove the rubber liner from mine and did not have any problem with funky smells. I just put as hot of water as I could in them, let them soak for about 10 minutes then pulled off the label (the hot water heated the glue so it let loose), then I washed them in the dishwasher. if there was any residue of the sticker left I used a green scrubby and scrubbed it off the glass, worked great! left them open to dry and no funny smell. I dont' think I could have gotten that liner out without totally tearing up the lid. Dunno..I guess each person has different experiances.

i used those little paring knives from pampered chef to cut part of the rubber off, and then i pulled the thing off. it worked really good. i was actually surprised. but i was a little worried about cutting myself; those knives are super sharp! i am still going to let it soak, and i think i might still drill little holes in the top just in case *lol*
