Question Poking Brads through Ribbon

Maybe I'm being a little OCD here. I'm wondering if anyone pokes brads through their ribbon before using on a card front, if you do anything special with the "ends" of the brads? Like cut them off?

Here is an example of what I mean:

Winter Children at Play - MZ by Zindorf - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

This GORGEOUS card by Michelle Zindorf! I love the black brads through the white ribbon on the front. But when I try it myself I hate the lumpy look of the ends behind the ribbon when I attach the whole thing to the card front.

Anybody have any tips? Or do I just need to get a grip on my "OCD-ish-ness"?

I LOVE that card - it's in my faves. Looks like she went all the way through the black layer too instead of just the ribbon, because hers looks pretty neat and tidy.. maybe even through all the layers now that I look at her tutorial.

Mine never look that neat and even!

Lydia,

It is beautiful isn't it?? No surprise! Michelle does such great work. You think the brads go through some paper too? From the pictures it looks like she did all the layering and added the brads last. Maybe she'll pop in and give us the final answer! I think she's on her way out of town now though if I remember correctly from today's blog entry...

link to her tutorial Winter Children at Play – Tutorial #357 It does look like she made the panels first, then the ribbon, then the brads before she attached the panel. That's the only way I know to hide the brad legs.

Maybe you all know this, but I'll mention it anyway. One thing I discovered with brads, especially softer ones, is that after I put the brad through (cardstock, ribbon, paper, etc), that I push the brad flat. I lay the item down on a hard surface with the brad head up and then with either my thumb or a marker or pen cover with a small hole/indent, I push down on the brad. It flats out the legs of the brad. Sometimes it causes them to bend back up on the sides, but I just flat them out again. It really makes the brads look flat and neater.
