Coloring with Bic Mark-It Markers
 

Hi everyone! Instead of investing in Copics, I purchased Bic Mark-It Markers instead in Fine and Ultra-Fine so that I can color digi stamps and write. I really like them a LOT because I have a ton of colors available to me. I've been able to blend some of them, but it takes a while to work on it. I've seen videos and blogs who say that they start with the lighter color first and then work their way to dark, and I've heard it the other way around too. Which way is it supposed to be? I've tried it both ways, but it still takes me a lot of time, so I'm not sure if it's just because I'm a newbie or if one way is better than the other. Thanks in advance!

I'm certainly not an artist, but I start with light and shade with darker colors. I have the Bics and also Sharpies in lots of colors. They are a good bargain for sure.

I did find that I liked my results better when I got a "few" Copics in the really lighter pale colors to go with the Bics and Sharpies. Even the colors that are supposed to be pastel, and look like pastel from the cap color, turned out to be pretty dark/bright.

I was patient and used a 40% Hobby Lobby coupon to buy some of the lighter colors in Copics, one at a time, lol.

Now that Michaels are carrying Copics, you could use a coupon there, too. They are still pricey, but not as bad as full price.

I might recommend another type of alcohol marker, similar to Copics, but much, much cheaper. Someone here told me about them, Shinhan Touch Twin markers. I think they are comparable to Copics. Here is a link to a site that has them on sale. You can get sets of 12 in different color families for $14.99 and $19.99. I did this and love them.

Thanks for the help! I probably should purchase lighter colors. I thought that I ruined one of my sets when I tried blending because the light colors came out dark. Then I tried the other set and realized they always were that dark! I didn't even think of getting different ones to supplement, but it makes logical sense to do so!

What colors/sets did you get? Just anything that was light?

I do the lighter to darker thing with all my coloring tools.
