Default Color your ribbon!

Just thought I'd share this. I really like my ribbon, paper and ink to all match but sometimes it just doesn't work that way. I had bought all this organdy ribbon from JoAnn's when it was 90% off so today I got the idea to try and color the white ribbon. And it worked! I just put a piece of paper on my desk as it's kind of messy and cut a long piece of ribbon. Then I took my ink spot and turned it upside down on one end of the ribbon and then I pulled the ribbon until all of it had gone under the inkpad. I turned the ribbon over and did it again on the other side of the ribbon. It is very fast and very easy, just a little messy. Anyways, I let it dry for a minute and then started putting it on my cards! I think it looks great. I then got out my grosgrain and tried coloring my white grosgrain. It worked better when I used a sponge and dabbed/streaked the color on because of the texture to it. It gives it a two tone effect. Just thought I'd share. Now my ribbon will match my ink-perfectly!!

Hugs,
Karisa

I also use the sponging/streaking technique. I find this is helpful when you're somewhere else and don't have matching ribbon. As long as I have some white or sheer ribbon, I am good to go!

Great technique!,

I love doing this! You can cut out some of the mess by using your sponge to hold the ribbon down on your ink pad, and then pulling it gently through the ink under the sponge. Does that make sense? lol

When I do it, I try to use a color lighter than what I'm using, that's still the same shade (err, don't know if I said that right...), like if I want to match Always Artichoke, I'll use Mellow Moss. I find the ribbon usually turns out darker than I want, although it does vary from color to color.

I once saw a demo use a wheel on white organdy ribbon (7/8"?). If I remember right it was a pink passion cartridge and the flitting by wheel. It looked really good.

I use my re-inkers and a little water to dye my ribbon. Turns out great.

I have a little glass bowl that I use. It is about half the size of a cereal bowl.
