Question Candle tins

Question for those of you who have altered candle tins...do you get tins that are plain (uniform color all around) or tins that have some sort of pattern to them? It seems like the plain ones are easier to alter since you don't have to worry about the tin when the top is taken off and the paper and tin mismatching. If you have altered patterned ones..how do you alter them...esp the top. I know that there is a tutorial on altering lunch tins but does anyone have a tutorial on the small tins. esp the candles.
They all look so easy to do and when I try them...they come out horrible, IMO. I know with practice I will get better.
Just lookimg for some pointers.
Thanks!

I have some patterned candle tins that I bought at Michaels at the holidays. It is a sugar cookie scent and has pics of cookies. Anyhow, I haven't altered it yet, butu was looking at it last night and figured I'd just add a circle to the top, and put ribbon around the edge of the lid... then paper around the base.

I love the silver tin candles at Target right now (dollar spot) that come 3/container ... but the candles are SOOOOO stinky I don't want to buy them! haahah.

I altered 2 candle tins at Xmas - here they are from my gallery.

Tin 1

Tin 2

The tins weren't wholly decorated but they did have labels on the top and around the side. I was able to cover the sides completely but didn't cover the lid entirely - so I worked with the colour schemes of the existing labels on the lids.

I managed to cover up the wording on the lids at least with CS cut with a circle punch.
