cleaner recipe

Does anyone have the recipe to make your own spray bottle of stamp cleaner?
I know it exists out there someone because I saw it once but forgot to write it down. I want to save money on the cleaner so that I can spend on the new stamp sets coming out in July. Any help out there??

Teanne,

I was looking for the same thing. Here is what I came across. This is copied from another thread.

Stamp cleaner recipe

This is the recipe someone gave me:

Use an empty hair spray bottle.
3 T. body spray (Bath & Body Works - something that smells nice)
Fill the rest with room temp water
Add 5-6 drops of dish soap
Shake gently.

I hope this is what you were searching for.

For the most part, I just mist my stampin' scrub with water. It works fine. When the pads get dirty, put them in the dishwasher on the top rack and run them through with the dishes. NO HEAT dry and they are fluffy and beautiful once again!

Thanks so much. I think I will try just misting with water too but then I have the recipe if I need some heavier cleaning. Thanks everyone for your help.

You can actually eliminate the body spray. It doesn't do anything for the stamps...it just makes the cleaner smell nice.http://forums.splitcoaststampers.com...ons/icon12.gif

I just thought the body spray was included for conditioning the stamps. ?????

But actually, in that same thread, I saw a post from someone who used diluted baby wash. So I got myself a spray bottle, filled about 1/4 (little less) with baby wash, and the rest with water. I spray that on my stamp scrubber. It's awesome! And smells good too. And of course it's going to be gentle on your stamps and won't dry them out.

added ingredient

Glycerin suppositories melt in the bottle of solution (they may take a little while, so use warm water with your baby shampoo) and for about $2.00 at the pharmacy you will have stamp cleaner for eons!!

Ladies, the day I buy glycerin suppositories to make home-made stamp cleaner is the day I will know that I have slipped over the edge! :D

Rather than the glycerin suppositories....(yuck!) I found a recipe on this site that I have tried....
Measure carefully...1 squirt baby wash, 1 squirt (or so) of liquid glycerin(comes in a bottle in pharmacy department - keeps stamps moist) and fill with water. I like this one - smells nice and conditions stamps.

Can also use watered down windex but it is more drying.
That's my 2 cents - for free!

Versa Mark vs glycerin

Okay here is a question for you. If Versa Mark and glycerin are the same thing then why is glycerin good for your stamps but Versa Mark is not?

The following came off a thread that was posted a while back here on SCS for saving money in stamping.

**Refill versa mark with glycerin, you can get glycerin at a pharmacy on the shelf glycerin IS WHAT VERSAMARK IS**

I just pour a small dab of dishsoap, laundry soap (whatever you are near) on to your stamping scrub pad before cleaning your stamps. Rinse each with water. Works perfect! Clean every time!

lindalee 05-31-2005 05:41 AM

Rox, glycerin isn't bad for your stamps. Stuff like alcohol is. :)

WeimFamily 05-31-2005 07:10 AM

I know which thread Rox71 was mentioning:

http://forums.splitcoaststampers.com...ad.php?t=55435

Someone stated in that thread that you cannot protect your stamps with versamark because the versamark will "eat your stamps". So if Versamark is made of glycerin and it damages stamps if not cleaned off, is it safe to use in a cleaner???? I ask because I really want to make my own cleaner, but I don't want to damage my stamps. I spend way too much money on them...

Does anyone know what ingredient in the SU mist "conditions" the stamps?
