Chipboard -- help needed

can someone please tell me how you add ink to chipboard letters without it soaking into the chipboard ??? I have just been using my SU ink pads and tapping them onto the letter -- but I find that the ink just does not look the same and soaks right into the board ... Is there a special ink I should be using or do people paint them instead ... thanks for any ideas and help ... Kim NZ:)

I have painted some with Gesso before I inked them and I have had better luck using chalk ink, Palette Hybrid, or pigment inks for better coverage. The other night I needed a gold/brown and I used fingernail polish and that worked great and I like the shininess of it. You could probably use and primer or craft type paint on them too.

Hi Kim
You need to use craft ink, classic does not work.
I had to get used to using mine plain sometimes too but that cardboard looked so funny to me at first.

You can also coat it in white craft ink, heat set it, and then sponge classic ink on top. Patterned paper also works great!

Has anyone tried spraying chipboard with one of the polyurethane-type sprays (Krylon, Delta) - you can get them in a satin finish.... I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, but I'll bet it would work.

Thank you all for replying to my call for help == I am going to have a play with my old pigment inks -- the little square ones -- I can not think who's brand they are... I do not have any SU pigment inks yet but I am sure over time I will build up my collection... Thanks again you have all been wonderful ... Kim

If you check out my site:

I have done about 13 episodes on how to decorate chipboard. They are videos, so it may help you. There is a link to the archive in the sidebar.
