Question Versamark Question

I quite often see stampers first load their stamp with Versamark then a SU Classic ink pad to be able to apply clear embossing powder and heat emboss it. My question is : Does the Versamark leave residue on the Classic ink pad? Before I try it, I want to make sure I won't ruin my new ink pads.

Thanks!:p

the versamark sticks real well to the stamp...doesn't come off unless it's "pulled" off...ink pads don't really pull the ink off the stamp...so you're not really going to ruin your stamp pads. Try this technique on an old ink pad and see what you think first if you're worried

I've been doing this since learning about it from Michelle Zindorf. I've not had any issues with my ink pads having a residue. It's a great "cheat" and cuts down on the need to have ink pad colors in both pigment and dye based versions.

Thanks so much for erasing my fears! I just saw some of Michelle Zindorf's creations and wow, she is talented! I seen her use this technique so it must be safe.

Thanks again!

I have 2 versamark pads - one is kinda gunky and I use it for embossing with classic ink. The other is nice and clean, I use this one for stamping plain versamark so that I always have a clear image when embossing clear on light paper or white embossing powder.

I labeled the clean versamark pad "NO" so that I won't accidently gunk up my clean pad.

If you are inking up with Versa FIRST, and THEN the classic ink, why would it gunk up your Versa pad?? This is what's confusing to me!

Lynn, I didn't start out with 2 versamark pads and it's not for some technial reason, it's because I'm a dweeb!

Originally, I only had one nice new clean pad and by mistake I ruined the clean pad by stamping the clean pad with dirty stamps. I would get caught up in what I was doing and not concentrate to make sure my stamp was clean before stamping on the versamark pad. Over time it had glitter, ink, other gunk on the pad from direct to paper methods so that when I stamped versamark on white paper the versamark ink was kind of grey color instead of clear. The grey would show through on clear embossing powder.

I bought a nice new pad and within a couple of weeks I did it again!
I negelected to clean the stamp before stamping it on the nice new versamark pad and even though I tried to clean the pad, it still had a pinkish tinge from the red ink I got on the pad.

If I know I'm bound to repeat a mistake, I take steps to help me remember not to do it again. I bought another new versamark and labeled with a neon yellow label that says NO. I've had this system for about 2 years now and have not ruined another pad. :p

ahh, I understand what you are saying.
It's just that someone else mentioned a dirty Versa pad, specifically from this technique (of using dye inks to emboss), even before I read this thread, so I just wasn't clear how that worked. I had thought you inked up with the colored ink first and then the Versa.
My Versa pad is dirty too, just from my stamps not being perfectly clean (even after cleaning them, the cleaning pad is usually not 100% clear). Good idea to put a reminder on it!

Hi there.

Another option: There is an embossing powder specifically for use with dye ink. The name is "Faith's Transcendence". I got mine from Close to My Heart, but if you google, you can find online suppliers. Folks on SCS say this powder works great !

Isn't it amazing just how well glitter sticks to the versamark pad - maybe they should make a versamark glitter glue.. teehee
