Candle Tutorial - LOOK HERE - updated

2 Attachment(s)
I responded to someone post yesterday about how you do candles - I posted saying I was in the middle of making up a tutorial since I am teaching a class on making candles this week. Well i kicked my booty into high gear (and it didn't hurt my kids actually went to bed at thier bedtime) and here it is complete with pictures. I added some pictures on the end of candles from here - I gave credit for them but if I got something screwed up and didn't credit your work correctly please please let me know.

Just a note - this is the steps in which I learned how to do candles - there are a number of different techniques - this one works the best for me.
OK - I think I managed to compress the pictures so that the file will come up and attach to a post....so lets try this out

I swear my grammer is better than the previous post- I am just not fully awake yet :?

Would like doc file

I didn't see where to PM you on the posting page. I would love to have the document. I have tried candles and not had success. I would love to try your method.
Thanks!

Jenmouer 01-19-2005 07:27 AM

OK I have had a few people PM me about the candle tutorial - and I sent it via my work e-mail - if you requested it and it didn't come thru please let me know...It gave me an error message for one persons e-mail so I am assuming the rest went thru just fine...

Jenmouer 01-19-2005 08:59 AM

Whoo hooo it worked....

mystampboutique 01-19-2005 09:09 AM

Thank you so much for posting these direction. I just bought some candles at Michael's today and I was coming on SCS to find the directions. How convenient!

Thank you so much for posting the tutorial! I'm going to have at least 2 baby showers coming up and this would be great to add to a stamped paint bucket!

I have heard others say that once the candle is burned down enough to place a votive or little tea light in it, to do that!

texasjodylynn 01-19-2005 09:56 AM

thanks

Thanks for the tutorial! I have made these before, but not as well as you did!

Thanks for all the work!

Chipper 01-19-2005 10:27 AM

Can't wait to try this! It's awesome! I guess I'd better buy an extra candle for practice.

Sawbewitched 01-19-2005 10:48 AM

Awesome tutorial!

Thanks so much for posting it!

sheripayne 01-19-2005 07:04 PM

Thanks so much for the tutorial. Everytime I try this technique it never looks as good as I would like. I will have to try the waxed paper.

lastamps 01-19-2005 07:50 PM

I really appreciate the time that you took to do this! I do so much better with photos and text when I sit down to do something for the first few times. Thanks!!

With most of the cheaper candles I have ever burned (from the $1 store) the candle has always burned down in, creating a divot.

I have yet to burn one of my stamped candles where it came down to tissue paper but I would think depending on the diameter of your candle if the wax did melt all the way to the edge the tissue paper would get bogged down in wax and curl. You could just take a pair of scissors and trim any tissue paper standing up...but as I said with the cheaper candles most likely they are going to burn inward and create a divot on top of the candle - then you can place a votive or tealight in the divot.

If you want to burn a stamped candle my suggestion would be to get a little bit taller candle and only place stamped images on the bottom half of the candle - that way if you burn it you don't have to worry about it.

I would not recommend doing stamped images on a high quality candle (like a Partylight one) that you are going to burn since their candles are designed to melt down and has a higher viscoity for thier wax.

Great tutorial! I tried a few of these a couple of weeks ago and to my surprise - they came out great! I thought I would ruin a couple before I got the hang of it but it was very easy -- just made my hand a little tired (holding the wax paper tight until the image melted in) :)

Thanks again!

wendalyn 01-20-2005 05:07 AM

Thats a Great tutorial I have been wondering how to do these and without pictures I couldn't picture it... Thanks Alot

Doris B 01-20-2005 05:10 AM

Thanks for posting this, I've only made one it's so neat how these turn out. I never thought of using sharpies, or markers. I only used a heat embossed image.

Do you find that any of the inks fade over time?

PaisleyPrincess 01-25-2005 05:22 PM

thanks so much for these awesome instruction.

can't wait to play with the candles that i bought

Kalkaskamz 01-27-2005 11:32 AM

I just bought some candles and tissue paper on tuesday because i'd love to attempt this! Cannot thank you enough for the awesome tutorial with pictures! Like most stampers, i'm a visual person and really appreciate the time you took to put this together and share it with us!

I have had a bunch of people e-mail me to ask how I stamped on the candles in my gallery - so I thought I would bump this up back to the top....

Oh and FYI - My demo and I burned one on my stamped candles to see what would happen - the tissue paper did not catch on fire but it did start to separate slightly from the candle (since the wax was heated up and melting) once the candle was burned down to the tissue paper area. Although you couldn't see it unless you were close up. But no matter what - NEVER leave any candle burning unattended....

Thank you

Just wanted to thank you for the great tutorial!!! I have lots of candles I got at the dollar store for 50 cents during the x-mas season!

Marissa.

Kari,

If you go onto the resources page (up at the very top next to forums, etc...) this exact tutorial is there. I think you should be able to print it out, etc...
