Basic Can Gift Instructions
 

Okay, so here is how I do it...

1. Take a one serving fruit cocktail can (or you can use a regular one with a pull-top lid).

2. Use a side-cutting can opener to cut open the BOTTOM of the can. (The kind of can opener that you can open the can and rub the edge of the lid on your arm and it won't slice it open - As Seen on TV has one, so does OXO and Good Cook - I think that's the name of the generic brand at Target - NOT THE OLD FASHIONED ONE THAT CUTS THE LID OPEN WITH THE JAGGED SHARP EDGE). Save the lid - you'll need it later to seal the can closed.

3. Empty the contents into a bowl so you can eat it while you make this, remove the label, and wash the inside and outside. Dry.

4. Decorate can however you like - be sure to use good adhesive so your decorative paper sticks to the can.

5. Fill with treats, incentive stamps, any other goodies you'd like. Remember when you fill the can you're filling it upside-down.

6. Use glue - like rubber cement or E6000 to run around the edge of the lid. Place lid back on can and wipe of any extra glue with a tissue or paper towel. Let dry.

I used hot glue because it's what I had. I had problems with it cooling before I got all the way around the can, so I started thinking of ways I could get the glue hot again so the bottom would go on straight. I lit my stove put the can on it for just about 2 seconds and it worked. The bottom slid right into place. USE CAUTION!!! PLEASE DO NOT START ANY FIRES!!!

I also figure that you could heat it back up with your embossing heat gun. :) My daughter wants to make these for her birthday party guests now.

I found a can opener at Walmart too! My nieces and nephews just love getting these filled with treats for the holidays.

For filling for these cans I use either the easter "grass" that you can get at the dollar store for baskets or I empty out my cross cut paper shredder and run some of my scraps of cards stock through and use this as well.

For these cans, I have found that a Pampered Chef™ can opener works the best. You can actually put the lid (or bottom in this case) back on since it cuts only the rim piece. This can opener also has a little gripper to remove the lid, otherwise it doesn't come off very easily.

This is so cool!
