bow tying

I am using a freestanding bow in the upper right corner of my christmas card and I cant seem to keep it from untying itself. I attatched the back of the bow to the cardstock with a lg gluedot, but now the front keeps untying itself with the "shoelaces". How do I get it to stay tied?
THanks for all advice in advance.
Jackie

Hi - not quite sure what you mean by freestanding bow, but my tips for success are these.

Always start with a knot - a reef knot is best as it lays the ends flat against the ribbon.
Always use more ribbon than necessary and pull the ears(loops) long and tight and then fiddle with the ends until they are all the right length. Hope this helps

Some kinds of ribbon are just sooooo..... slippery. Perhaps if you drip a tiny bit of glue into the center of the bow just before you tighten it down?

Another solution is to zap the ribbon bow with your heat gun. it kind of melts the ribbon and keeps in its place. It also gives the ribbon an old fashioned look. Hope this is clear as mud! lol. Any way I am sure that which ever way you choose, your card will still be beautiful. Taishea

I just bought a 2 slot punch to help me with ribbons. You basically tie the ribbon right to the card.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread but I have a similar question and didn't think I needed to post a whole new topic...

I am having trouble tying my ribbon so that it looks nice with both ends straight and a clear knot in the middle. The only way how I know to tie ribbon is like a shoelace. Should I start with a reef knot and then tie normally? Are there any sites online that show you how to tie a perfect bow??

THANKS!

-Sam

I learned to tie a bow by making bunny ears. LOL. But it does seem to work to make very good bows. You just take 2 loops, one in each hand and then knot them together, then you can trim the ends at an angle for a perfect bow. Works every time for me. ;)

bows

I have had trouble with bows too. One thing that I do is to tie the bow upside down. I turn the card upside down and then tie the bow like I tie my shoes. I also like the quick bow. No real tying involved judt pulling thru the holes. I still like to zap the bow with me heatgun it looks neat. Taishea

I found really great instructions at www.mostlyanimals.com - they're kind of buried. On the top bar, click "projects" and then you'll see the link.

I made myself a pdf file with their pictures just so I could have a paper copy for when I'm not working near the computer - I've attached it here (hopefully) in case anyone wants to use it.

This bow does not come off the card once it's been tied!

I use a little tool called a "Bow Easy," and then attach it with a mini glue dot. It works all every time! I bought mine in a stamp shop in VT, but you can order them online at http://rubberstampstore.com/html/259...bow-maker.html.

OK- I'm bow challenged and I looked at this Bow Easy. I'm wondering if I'd be able to figure THAT out! Help!

Bow tieing

I just bought the double slit punch too and it works great! It's rather difficult to position in the middle of the card, so most are either on the sides or at the top/bottom. Works great with all kinds of ribbons..even the slippery ones!

It comes with instructions--in words and pictures. I thought the same thing, but I learned it pretty quickly!
