Must you use Tumbled Marble?

I want to make some coaster sets as Xmas gifts and am having trouble finding tumbled marble tiles that are not cracked or overly pocky! Can you use any other kind of smoother tile? Would you still use Staz on? Would you still bake??

I have the same problem with the tumbled tiles I bought (the too pocky part). So, when I saw Bisque tiles used at a convention, so I bought them. I haven't tried them yet, but they said, use Staz-on, either pastels or Sharpies to color and seal with a spray sealant. I'm hoping that mine will look as nice as the ones they had on display. BTW, I intend to finish off the bottom of mine with some cork (although they used little rubber feet in the booth at convention). HTH and good luck.

You can use regular tiles, but you would need to seal them. I'm not an expert on this so maybe someone else can give you the best way to do that.
