Default Distressing paper - page 99 in the SU catalog

I would like to try my hand at the card shown on page 99 in the SU catalog that is done with the Morning Soft stamp and the elegant eggplant. Can anyone tell me how to get the elegant eggplant to look the way they have it in the picture?
Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

I think you would have to wet the cardstock to be able to distress it that much. Not soak it, but spritz it and then just crumple the heck out of it. Flatten it out and then maybe use a bone folder to get those really flat crumpled edges.

I've done this but without water. You need to beat your paper up. Crumple it and unfold it, roll it around in your hands. Once you break the fibres your CS will be very soft and the edges will start to separate. At this point take your finger and roll some of the edges down.

You can use this same concept to make suede. When you separate the CS it looks and feels just like suede. SU Black works great. Cut it into strips and use your bonefolder (like curling ribbon with scissors) to break down the fibres instead of crumpling.
