Default Tips for painting Altoids tins?

Has anyone had great success in painting these? In the past, I have just worked with what's there, but I really want to paint some. I tried sanding then using acrylic paint, and it just looks very unfinished.

TIA
Vanessa

I've had success, but if you abuse the tin too much by carrying it in your purse, it will chip a little.

I sanded mine then painted it with an old nail polish that I didn't like (deep maroon). A v. nice background for some collaged pieces!

I made a bunch as gifts awhile back. I lightly sanded the top so the apint would adhere better. Used craft paint that siad it was for metal. I then used stz on stamp ink and spraed a sealer over the top.

I'm getting some time to craft tonight once ds goes to bed, so I will have to try some of these out. Thanks! If I can't find anything that works well, I will just have to check Michael's tomorrow.

I just bought some sandable primer ant Michaels yesterday to try on these. I thought I would prime them then use a metallic paint on them.

I agree with spray painting. I have not sanded first. You can get a neat effect by spraying one color solid then using another color to just lightly fleck with overspray. Found this out by mistake! Looks great though!
