Default Black and White Photo or Color?

What kind of photos look best black and white versus color? Is there a rule to follow? I'm having quite a time changing all my photos to B&W so I can pick a few that might look right...

Need B&W for VSBN!

Thanks!

Hi Melissa,
A good place to start is with any photographs that you don't particularly like in color because of composition, over- or underexposure, etc. Often times these "throw away" images look fantastic in b&w. Portraits or snapshots of people or animals/pets are also candidates for b&w. In my opinion, there really isn't a rule to follow. Experience will tell you much about what looks good when converted to b&w.

Hope that helps.
Laurie

This is just my opinion, but I think close-up shots look good in B&W. For instance a frame with just the children (just faces or body and face) works better than a photo that includes the playground and the swings and the slides.
