Question Prismacolor Pencils vs. Pure Color Pencils

There has been a lot here lately about Gamsol and I'm ready to try it! But I wonder why Prismacolor Pencils seem to be preferred. I'd be interested in your opinions about Prismacolors vs. SU Pure Color Pencils, used with Gamsol, and other uses as well. I like to stick with SU products as much as I can, partially due to the demo discount :-) Thanks for any input. (Go Colts!)

Granna,
I'm interested in this thread, too.

Thank you for posting.

I don't have the SU set but I have heard the wax content in the pencils varies between brands. The wax is what allows the gamsol to blend the color. If you are concerned about price, you can easily get 120 ct prismacolor on ebay, which is more than 1/2 off retail at any store I've seen.

Oh, and I meant to point out that the Prisma puportedly have one of the highest wax contents of all brands. Prisma is truly recognized as the premier leader in colored pencils and no offense against SU, but they aren't in the colored pencil business and I wouldn't expect their pencils to be as good. Not to say they aren't adequate but I would probably buy what has already been proven as working well with gamsol.

Our Pure color pencil come in only 12 colors. Maybe that is one of the reasons. Blending them is also a little bit harder then the prisma colored pencils.
Try our metallic pencils with Gamsol. They blend easier then the Prismacolored ones.
