today, on the Carol Duvall show, probably a repeat show, was a unique
stamping technique, I have not seen. You would tear out of magazines, glossy pages, and sort colored glossy pages into separate color
collections, and tear up each color into individual little torn strips, stamp
onto pages with versamark ink pad, embossed powder and heat. He did a
butterfly and other stamped cards from the same stamp. They were so unique and pretty. You would have to check this out to understand. http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_paper_cr...989274,00.html
This would be really pretty done on Polished Stone, then you'd have SU colors so things would match.

Maybe I missed something here. But, I don't "get" why he gold embossed the entire buitterfly on the black card. He proceeded to cover up all but the body when he added the colored paper.
BTW I didn't see the show, I'm just reading the instruction on the webpage.
Wow, those are really beautiful! But now I'm annoyed with myself...I just got rid of a huge box of old magazines, and now all I have left are my craft magazines and Victoria magazines that I don't want to cut up! Oh well, I'm sure more magazines will mysteriously find their way to me... ;-)

Garnet, 3D look -some of the samples on the show were dimensional where the card was stamped with a butterfly and then the technique was done, with the wings of another stamped butterfly with the glossy magazine background glued over the other butterfly (stamped one), but glue only on the center of the butterfly, a creating a dimensional flying "look" butterfly, I would
have to make a sample soon to remember this also. Carolyn in MN
Thank you Carolyn... I wondered if that was the idea. Couldn't see it on the computer screen. Have you looked at Michael Strong's website? There are beautiful examples of his cloisonne cards. And, of course, he has stamps for sale. I think ten are the cloisonne style: a fish, a Christmas tree, a heart, a hummingbird..... etc.
He also has a great collection of retro (1940s) people and things.
As the saying goes, "I need another stamp like I need another hole in the head," but I really like some of these. http://www.strongstamps.com/index.htm
I didn't see the show, but my thoughts on reasoning for embossing it on the black is similar to paper piercing...The antennias would be very difficult to cut out, this way they are already on the black when you put the embossed magazine wings over. does this make sense
