I have stamped on both glass plates and glass bowls...
Staz-on is a MUST - I stamped using Staz-on and then used my embossing gun to heat set the images a little better.
I made a bunch of plates and bowls last year for christmas - i used the holiday sampler kit (the jingle bell and the bulb) and what i did was actually remove the stamp from the wooden block and put it on my finger to stamp so there would be less of a "rocking motion" for the bowls.
You can find glass plates and bowls at $1 store - i got mine from Garden ridge for 88 cents each.
The bowls I filled with a bunch of candy and tied it up with cellophane and gave those to my co-workers so they each had a glass bowl of candy for thier desk.
The plates I just stamped the edges (had about an 1' wide flat edge to it) and filled the center with cookies and goodies for neighbors
When using staz-on have a little bottle of nail polish reomver handy - if you stamp and image and it smears or moves just take a napkin and a little nail polish remover to get rid of the ink and start over again.
I know people have also used versamark and embossed glass - personally I haven't had much luck with it but I think I am going to try again with some glass square votives
