Default TLC807~Only Isopropyl Alcohol For Me~08/10/2020

Good second Monday of August! I'm posting a bit early because 1) there are some storms going through, afraid I'll lose power and 2) I'm an early to bed girl. Today we are going to play with watercolor paper, acrylic paints (any kind), water and isopropyl alcohol. Here is the tutorial for this technique:

Don't worry, I would never drink isopropyl, I just don't drink period. Thanks to Pat (pvilbaum) for drawing my attention to this technique. I love background techniques, all one needs is something simple like a diecut on top. One suggestion: make sure your paint is very thin, even thinner than what is suggested. I even sprayed with water before dropping on the alcohol. This technique can be a hit or miss, but I found it rather fun and interesting.

Here's a link to our TLC807 Drunken Acrylic Reveal gallery

Here are my cards:

Hi, Jean. I saw your sample cards in your gallery and was instantly curious about this. I found the challenge early and now I can't wait to try it. I may not have the correct alcohol but if I do I am on this tonight. The results are awesome.

You can use any alcohol you have, doesn't really matter. I have 99% because it works great with alcohol inks, although I found out yesterday that it evaporates faster than 91%. Duh, Jean. I don't think it matters for this technique.

I tried this on 4 different panels and had no luck...I did it with thin paint, a bit thicker...my alcohol was rubbing alcohol 70% and I also tried it with alcohol blending solution...hmmm..just didn't work for me. I think I had the same problem last time I tried this...oh well...I gave it a try. Now on to DTGD samples....

I'm sorry, Polly....sometimes i feel like I have more trouble than most others with techniques, that's why I thought 'this will be fine, even so so results are good.' Maybe rubbing alcohol isn't strong enough?? I also thought of blending solution. I have no idea how Lydia's examples were so colorful.

Finally got a complete card finished. This was actually fun and I like how this turned out. I would try it again with some different colors and 91% alcohol if I can find it. Thanks.

Default TLC807

I tried this technique and followed the instructions to the letter. It did not work well with acrylic paints using 185lb acrylic paper. adding more paint did not and using the alcohol did not get to the layer below

I did do this technique in art class and we used sea water. today my fish glistens from the sea water. after the paint dried we added a color in the center with the end of a flat end on to give the effect of polka dots. and came back again with a 3rd color.

I again tried this technique on watercolor paper using water color paints the effect like my fish was small circles not big blotches. when you painted over the 1st layer you get dark spots and adding the alcohol goes right down to the previous layer with a dark color in the center.

Inspired by Jean's doodling on her pieces, I used one of my fails for a card today. I guess I'll have to try for a better picture when DH has finished work, the background looks about right in the photo but the image is a bit washed out.

Here is one using my background that I did for this challenge, but never had made a card with it.
