Default TLC776 ~ Striped Die-cut Sentiments ~ {01/06/2020}

Happy New Year, Happy Monday to you all, and welcome to the first TLC challenge of 2020.

In with the new...
I know we are all really sad to see Judy leave the team, she has been a fabulous hostess over the years, and we all wish her well, and hope to continue to see her lovely cards in the gallery.

With the New Year, we are delighted to welcome two new team members - and also to introduce something of a revamp to the challenge.

Snietje (Anita) and jkanack (Jean) are joining us - please welcome them.

As for the revamp: as you can imagine, it has become harder and harder over the years for the hostesses to find techniques that are genuinely new each week - and when we started featuring the Everything Old is New Again on the first Monday of each month, it was obvious that older techniques were new to some people. You might have noticed that we have a new (old) forum header - we are back to the original Technique Lover's Challenge title (hence the TLC challenge keyword, which never changed). And while we will definitely continue to bring you new techniques, we are only committing to one new technique each month, and will feature more older techniques. Often new supplies in our stash add a new twist to those older techniques, so we really hope you will continue to play along and be inspired by the challenges the team bring you each week. And you might be surprised - if a hostess has found something new she's free to feature that at any time, even if it's not her scheduled rotation for a specific new challenge, so watch this space. You might be surprised with more than one new technique each month.

We thank you for your support and participation over the years, and hope that you will continue to play along with us. Personally I find it's easy to get in a rut, and a challenge can often remind me of an old neglected technique and bring fresh inspiration.

On to today's challenge...I rarely get time to watch videos, but took a little time over the Christmas break while trying to find something for today, as the first technique I was thinking of requires a lengthy drying time so I wasn't sure about featuring it. In a Jennifer Maguire video I came across this technique using strips of paper to create striped sentiments, and thought it looked like fun.

1: Choose the die you wish to use, and cut a piece of copy paper to a suitable size. In fact, I used a large address label, as this cut out the need for any gluing. Or you could use double-sided adhesive sheets, if you know that the ones you have will cut will with more intricate dies. Mine doesn't .
Prepare some strips of DP and/or coloured cardstock. Mine were mostly 1/4" wide (3mm), though I made a few narrower and wider.

2: If necessary, add glue to your piece of paper or your strips of coloured cardstock/DP, and arrange the strips on your piece of paper. Angled, upright, horizontal - your choice.

3: You might like to trim off some of the overhanging bits, so that you don't accidentally lay the die over a piece with no backing paper!

4: Die-cut your sentiment - and use it to create a card. Don't lose the dots from any "i"s or "j"s - despite my best efforts, I did.

You don't have to use sentiment dies, you could use letters to create your own. But if you're using small ones, remember to scale your strips down or you won't get much of an effect. And in fact, you're not constrained to using sentiments, even though that's the challenge title. If you want to use shades of red and pink for a striped heart for Valentine's Day, or greens for a shamrock, or whatever you like, that's fine. Just follow the basic idea of sticking strips of DP to backing paper and cutting your shape from that.

Here's a link to our TLC776 Striped Die-Cut Sentiments gallery

Here are my cards:

TLC776 Just For You

Remember to use the keyword TLC776 when you are uploading. It's helpful if you come back and leave a link on this thread, especially in case you made a typo and people may not find your card.

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

I love this technique and don't use it often enough. I will look through my stash and post something later today. Welcome to new team members!

Congratulations to the new team...you are all exceedingly talented, so I know fun Mondays are ahead!

Sabrina, I think the revamp is a GREAT idea! I've been around longer than some...and not as long as others, but I know there are many techniques that I haven't explored on my own. Your challenges give me that "push". I am admittedly an "in the rut person"....give me a comfy rut and I'll stay in it. Thanks for all that you do to expand our creative horizons. (I used your idea today of shamrocks)

I'm excited and nervous about being a hostess on a regular basis. Please be gentle with me if you click on something and get sent to Lord knows where. Sabrina has been a gem, helping me learn the process.

Sabrina, I love the revamp! I really like revisiting old techniques as often I've forgotten about them over the years.

I'll be back later with a striped sentiment card.

I used single letters since I don't have many sentiments that will work.

First CONGRATULATIONS Anita and Jean for becoming TLC hostesses! I look forward to your upcoming challenges . . .
My die cut words are all so tiny and delicate that this technique was not effective with them so I used shapes instead so I could play along.

Welcome Anita and Jean! I don't do this challenge a lot as Mondays seem to be so busy, but I'm going to try to do more this year! Thanks for a very interesting-looking challenge Sabrina. I appreciate all you hostesses do for SCS! Amazing women!

First congratulations Anita and Jean looking forward to seeing your creations and challenges.
I follow Jennifer Maguire and am constantly amazed at her talent and generosity towards us crafters.
I have actually used three techniques she uses often
#1 Striped Die cut Sentiment ....dur
#2 Die Cut layering, where you cut out two or more of the same die cut and layer them together to give a little hight.
#3 Full heat embossing of die cut sentiments and greetings and without further ado
Rainbow Wishes

Welcome, Anita and Jean!!

This challenge was perfect for me! I have decided that 2020 will be the year that I pull from my scraps first, and I have been hoarding my striped cardstock pieces ever since Jennifer McGuire posted this technique! Thanks for the inspiration. Making this card felt great!

Check out my card here: Hooray for Rays by Lucy1213 - at Splitcoaststampers

Also Jennifer McGuire is amazing, and I'm so glad that her technique was featured here!
