Can anyone tell me if there is a special template that you are using for the color blocked pieces?? These are all so lovely, but I just don't know how to begin.

I didn't use a template. I basically did it like this. Your base card is 4-1/4"x5-1/2".

If your next layer is your color blocks, you want the total layer 4"x5-1/4". Any place you want an opening in the layer, you have to minus 1/8" from the total. [If you want 1 cut on the 4" direction, the total of the 2 pieces will be 3-7/8"] Just break the whole into smaller sections to divide. Am I making any sense at all?

Do a really easy practice one with only 4 pieces of color blocking. Cut a piece of card stock (or paper) 3-7/8"x5-1/8". Then cut it into 2 pieces & cut each of those in 2 pieces the other direction, and lay them on your base with 1/8" border all around & 1/8" strip of base showing between the pieces.

If you want to proceed further, take one piece, cut it into 2 & trim 1/8" off the cut on one of the pieces. Basically, this is the concept for fitting for the entire card, except you are working with 2 or more colors.

HTH. If you have more questions, please ask.

Wink Here's my third!

I am having so much fun with this technique that I made all three of the sister-in-law birthday cards that I needed for February using variations of this technique.

I just reposted at 2:35 MST so it will take a little while to be approved.
Here's my card:

I didn't use a template either. What I did was cut strips of paper all the same width, For example I chose three colors and cut strips all 1 1/2 inch wide and then I cut random lengths from there. Then started placeing them on the black background already cut to size.

I am not quite sure if this was the easy or the hard way to do it but it worked for me. I attached the thread to my card.

Here's mine, pending at 6:20 p.m., PST. Not my favorite card, but the technique was fun! It's hard to get all those pieces to fit.

This blockhead finally got one done but I used all white blocks. I guess I need to read again when I do the challenge five days later, I was just happy to get a chance to do it.
But anyway...Here's my card

Here's my attempt at the challenge. Used a white background instead of black because of the pastel color blocks.

Well, the week turned out to be crazy with no time to stamp, but I FINALLY got out my colorblocking template & gave it a try! I see this as a great technique for incorporating smaller stamps into an overall design.

Thanks for the challenge. I saw color blocking in a magazine a while back and had to try it. Here are a couple that I have done.

I forgot I had this one for last week's challenge - it also fits one of the color challenges.

Not exactly a black background, but the same general idea:

I made this card for a color challenge, but I also used color blocking. Here's color blocked harmony.

If you recall when I first did one of these I really wasn't thrilled with this technique. However, I have continued to make them & I'm finding they aren't as difficult as they seemed at first. I made another for an inspiration challenge yesterday, but forgot to put this challenge # in the keywords. Here's spring on the block. I'll add that, but not today (Sunday).

I received this is a swap I was in, and it is just sooo beautiful I had to share it. There's no name on the card and I don't know or remember who it came from, but it is drop dead beautiful.

color blocking perfection

The center image is stamped on clear acetate in sepia and the main base of the card is a craft color. the next layer is a hand made piece of shimmer gold and then the paterened paper is blocked on top of that.

Wow!
