Here's my attempt at the Faux Cloisonne. I did have trouble with the EP cracking when I cut it out, but I just reheated it with the heat gun after I mounted it & the cracks disappeared!

Also, I was checking out Mike Strong's gallery. He has samples done all different ways- with different color EP, all one ad in the same image, different backgrounds, etc.
So..... seems to me like everyone's doing it right!

I did a second one, just to make sure whether or not I liked this technique. I definitely like the results, but I do not like doing all the cutting. It's not even that I mind cutting, but you have to be really careful as you cut around the images, so this is probably not a technique that I would do often. I also found another source of paper ... calendar pages!

Here my egret card.

Calendar pages -- very clever!!

I agree about the cutting...I love the technique, but it will be reserved for "special" cards!

I"m PO'd at my EP...the gold is flaking off the paper too. Now wouldn't that be a pretty site after going through the mail system! It happened on two different papers; 2004 SU calendar and a heavy catalog paper. That sure put a halt to my second card and it was really the right colors this time!

stampinbird, by the time I noticed I forgot to list this technique it way to late and I figure the girls have enough approving to do that I wasn't going to upload again. To me anything that isn't flat to the card is dimensional but correct me if I'm wrong because it sure wouldn't be the first time! LOL!

This is probably due to the type of finish that is on the paper. If your paper is especially glossy, there is probably something in the finish that is preventing the EP from adhering well. I'm not sure if there is a solution or not. Just a thought... could you try maybe lightly rubbing it first with something like rubbing alcohol? Or maybe the embossing buddy? I'm just thinking 'out loud' here, so I have no idea whatsoever whether or not either of those might help? Anyone else have any ideas?

Another ?? How big are your scissors? If you are using big ones, try tiny ones. And how close are you cutting to the EP? Are you actually cutting into it or just along side it?

Here's mine. It seems that All Natural is the natural choice in stamp sets to use for this challenge and really wanted to use the flower, but noticed other great stampers were thinking the same, so I used the pears.

It's not there, try changing the file name. This doesn't mean the card title but the name you saved it to in your computer files. Put your user name and no one else will have the same file name.

Ok, here's one more. I broke down and had to use the flower from All Natural even though earlier posters have used it for their faux claisonne card. I just couldn't resist! This one is 4 1/4 x 4 1/4.

I finally got to this challenge and I am so glad that I did. I had never heard of the term "Cloisonne" so I did a little google. It is such a beautiful art form! I didn't have gold, so I used silver instead:

I have been admiring the cards for this technique this week, and finally got around to tearing up my magazines at work today. Also found the Avon catalog to be quite useful! The girls both asked at different times, "Why are you stamping in the Avon catalog?" LOL
I know my card isn't the typical way this technique is used, but I didn't have the energy to get into all the details that some of you have done. There are really some beauties here this week. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Here is my card:

I showed this technique to some friends today. They were really enthusiastic about it, and left with some pieces that they will put into a card later. I can't wait to see what they did, but here is my second one. I think it would have been better with a variety of leaf styles instead of just one.
I'm so glad that this technique was the challenge. The possibilities with it are endless, and it has been so fun seeing how everyone has approached it.

Beth

I finally tried a challenge. I really enjoyed this. It was my first attempt at both the cloisonne and stitching. I did however put the wrong TLC number on the picture.

Here is mine.

Tks Beth for this wonderful challenge.

What fun! I cleaned out a bunch of old magazines that were taking up space and got to make a fun card too! I embossed a ton of flowers, so I'll be making more of these soon.

I'm new to this forum. I've been lurking and reading and learning since the beginning of the year. I know this thread has been sitting for a few weeks but I just started the cloissone technique today. I am having a hard time with the gold embossing powder on black paper. I keep getting that light gold dusting on parts of the paper where I don't want it. I've tried both the embossing bag that is supposed to help and a drier sheet with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Try using the embossing bag and after you pour the excess ep off of your card, flick the back of the card with your finger, tapping. If there is still ep where you don't want it, use a small paint brush to sweep the excess off the card. I hope this makes sense and helps.

I love this technique and think it makes the greatest accents to a card. It is so versatile, and can really add a unique detail. Here are a few I have done lately.
