TLC220 Bandanna Technique {5/11/09}
Hello all, and welcome to another TLC Monday. Today's technique is called the Bandanna Technique (the spelling of Bandanna or Bandana are both acceptable according to Webster's Dictionary) because of the appearance of a workman's bandanna. I first heard about this technique in the August/September issue of Technique Junkies Newsletter. It's a great technique that utilizes stamped images with additional doodling done with a white opaque pen.
When I started to do my card, I googled "bandanna" to see what patterned were actually used in bandannas and was surprised to find so many variations. That's good for us creative types. BUT the really good news is that you don't have to make a bandanna patterned background. The technique really lies in the opaque white pen that you use to highlight certain aspects of your stamped image. Doodle a little - doodle a lot - it's up to you.
Basically the way to replicate the look is to stamp your image onto colored cardstock using similar ink, or make your own background with any other technique you like and stamp your image using black ink onto your cardstock. From that point you just use your stamped images as your guide as you dot and dash your way around your designs.
To view some samples already in the gallery using this technique CLICK HERE.
My sample of this fun technique can be viewed HERE.
All samples using today's technique may be found HERE.
As always, don't forget to add the keyword TLC220 when you upload your creations so that everyone can gain inspiration from the creative ladies here in the TLC group.
HINT for next week: This technique will make you "shutter".

I LOVE this technique - just never knew it had a name - but I almost can't make a card without doodling with my white gel pen somewhere, it's more of a challenge for me to make a card without the white gel pen.....so fun!! Anyway, here is mine and it has made me late for work!! Gotta FLY!!!!

Good morning! WOW! Lynn, this looks interesting. I took a couple of weeks off from stamping to get my health back up to par. I'm ready to play again...thanks for the great challenge.

This was quite fun to work with...and easy peasy for me.
I just love it, and will have to come again, if I can find a minute.

Well...I pulled out some rub-ons since I couldn't find some "whimsical" stamps for the technique...I added TONS of Signo Pen white, dots, lines and fill-ins!
Here's my "Hey There Lady.....BUG!" card

What a fun new challenge.... I can't wait to try it out. I like Markie's Mom's idea about using the rub-ons and embellishing around them. Great way to use odds and ends to create a festive background.

What fun!!!
I didn't want to cover up my bandana background, so I made a very simple card.
Bandana Birthday
Eek, I see the evening sun has made it a brighter blue - it's really faded denim colour, I'll have to sort that out!
