Technique Lovers Challenge 04 --- won't you play too?
Good morning, stampers! This week's challenge is BLEACH.
When posting your creation, please add TLC04 to the Keywords section, and then come back here and post a link. If you need help uploading or posting a link, please PM me.
There are many ways to use bleach, but first let's talk about how to protect our stamps from the harsh effects of bleach. The big key is to first ink up your stamp with versamark and then into the bleach pad (see below on how to make one), and to clean your stamp well (I tap it first into a wet paper towel, and then on scrubby thing sprayed with Stampin' Mist). Also, don't wear your favorite clothes...accidents happen, and we all know what bleach can do! LOL And don't forget to protect your work surface too.
Here's one way to make a bleach pad: Take a disposable sandwich sized container (like Glad brand). Cut a piece of felt to fit the bottom. Pour a small glug of bleach on the felt. You want it to be good and damp, but not sitting in a puddle of bleach. If you need to, squeeze out the excess. If you don't have felt, you can use a folded paper towel, preferably one without much texture to it. It is my opinion that felt gives a much cleaner and sharper stamped image.
Okay, so now you are ready to go. There are several "techniques"
Simply Bleaching: Simply stamp an image in bleach. Some of the flowers I made for LS04 on the bottom are bleached.
http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1
Bleach Overstamping: Stamp the image in bleach, then stamp again in ink. Here's an example:
http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1
Marker over Bleach: Stamp a bold image in bleach, then color in the bleached area with a marker. Here's an example:
http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1
Painting with Bleach: Use your aquapainter or any paintbrush or even a q-tip to paint the bleach on. Here's an example:
http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1
There are more ways to use bleach, I'm sure. Let me know and I'll add them to the list. If you have a link to an example, let me know that too.
The really fun part of using bleach is that you never really know what color the bleached part will be! Many times the color will surprise you!
I can't wait to see all your creations! Thanks for playing along!

here is one I did a while back, I embossed the flower image in black and painted over and outside of the image even strokes at a diagonal with a paintbrush and bleach, then I colored it in with markers.

I will submit a new one later.

Thanks for the information on using bleach. I have not tried it yet because I was reluctant to expose my stamps to bleach, I can see where the stamping on Versa Mark first would protect it some. Excellent idea.

Quick question - does anyone know if the bleach pen works for this?
If so how do you use it? Made a puddle to stamp in? Color bleach right onto the stamp?
If you don't have bleach I've heard that Cascade dishwasher soap works too

I have used the bleach pen for this technique. Then I don't have to worry about spilling bleach everywhere. I can just put it where I want it. I apply directly to my stamp. If I get too much on there, I stamp it off onto a scrap piece first then onto my card. Just takes a little practice to see what works for you. I will try to get my sample scanned soon.

I'm not going to have a chance to stamp much this week, so I'll post a card I uploaded last week that uses bleach! I embossed the leaves and then painted with bleach

Here's my first try ever at bleaching. I started super simple Now that I got the hang of it I'm going to try some more. As a matter of fact, I've already got some more images bleached and just need to make them into cards.
Thanks for the challenge!

Here's my card for the challenge.
I combined the technique with the Sketch challenge:
http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1
The real red is quite a powerful dyed paper. The bleached part is rather light.

Here are 2 attempts at this week's challenge.
The first combines TLC04 with CC02 and SC13 and I used a piece of felt soaked with bleach in place of a stamp pad.
http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...cat=500&page=1
The second card is embossed first (black) and then I used a chlorox bleach pen to color it. I think I prefer this second technique. It was less smelly, messy and I prefer the results. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking

The bleaching was fun. So many good ideas presented in every technique. I am learning so much from all of these different techniqus and will be watching for the next one today too.
Thank you for starting these technique ideas and also a big thanks to everyone who participates with their cards. I learn so much from each and every card.

Here is my second attempt at using bleach. It's fun to see what color is going to come up when you bleach the cardstock. Thanks for the challenge!
