Good morning and happy Monday to you all! It's my first TLC challenge of the year, and you're getting it a little early as I'm off work sick, and may not be awake in the morning when I normally post. I've had this one tucked away in my "possibles" folder for quite a while after seeing THIS card by lisacurcio2001. Lisa kindly said I could share her Paper Towel Background technique with you.
It took me a while - because I'm a sucker for the pretty printed towels in the kitchen, and the heavy-duty extra absorbent one I use up here on my desk has blue lines all through it. After several uses in my spray box they're generally covered up enough for it sometimes to look very pretty on a card - but certainly not suitable for this technique. So last time I was shopping I made a BIG effort to buy plain paper towel.
Lisa has a great video - and as it's super-short I'm only going to add a couple of step-out photos for you.
Basically, put a piece of paper towel (textured side UP) on scratch paper or a mat. Gently wipe your ink pad down it to add colour. It's really just the same as wiping a pad over a piece of embossed card.
I used distress inks on my flamingo sample card, and distress oxide on the step-out photos below.
Cut or tear to shape and use. Lisa recommends tearing, because the nature of the paper isn't very compatible with a trimmer. I found that it die-cut well.
Once you've created a card using your lovely paper towel background, upload it with the keyword TLC674, and come and share a link to your upload on the the thread here.
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread. 2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link. 3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on) 4. Click EDIT. Click COPY 5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
Sabrina, This was fun technique. I hope you feel better soon. Here's my card.

This looks such fun and already seen some creations using this technique. Thank you for the challenge and I have to give it a go. Happy day

Thanks for passing on this terrific idea for a different bg, Sabrina. I'm a loyal customer of Bounty paper towels, but I might shop for ones with interesting embossed patterns now. : ) Thanks.
I used a variation on the technique where you transfer the colours and texture from the paper towel to your card, but don't actually glue the paper towel onto the card. I hope that is acceptable for the challenge! I explain the technique in my write up for the card:
Sabrina - I sure hope you feel better soon - being sick is NO fun . . . .
I did restrain myself this morning from knocking on strangers doors to ask for pieces of paper towel when I found out how BORING my towels were - LOL - but this is actually an easy technique and a challenge as to how to incorporate it on a card.
Here's mine with a substitute of toilet paper for paper toweling!! OK stop laughing!! All of my paper toweling in the house is Viva, with no pattern to it!!

I did both yesterday LOL and found the toilet paper started peeling when I was inking.... I've also cut out circles to make flowers with both on my project and the toilet paper stuck on my BS plate.....LOL. Both look ok and I had fun :p. Happy day

Oh ,oh oh, I have the perfect paper towel for this, unfortunately it's two hours away in my craft room. Hopefully I will have a chance to play on the weekend when we get home.
I finally completed a tag using this technique which I had started after you posted the challenge. I also used some used baby wipes that had been sitting in my stash for months and knew they would come in handy one day.
