Hello! I'm so glad to be joining the hostess team for the TLC this year. I will do my best to follow in Anita's footsteps--but she definitely outclasses me on all things foldy. My folded paper hat is off to you Anita, we salute you and miss you already!
My first challenge is pretty easy. You will need ombre paper. You can make your own with blending tools or use some DSP with an ombre pattern. There is a tutorial for creating ombre backgrounds if you are interested in trying it.
I went the easy route and used Oh, So Ombre DSP by SU. Attach the paper to card stock if you think it needs the weight. Trim the paper to a layering size for your card. Mine is roughly 5.25 x 4 inches, though I did discard the last strip because my cuts did not come out even. (I'm not very mathy.)
Cut the paper into uniform strips all the way across. Mine are about three fourths of an inch (.75")
Mount them on your card base and flip every other strip so that you have a dark and light alternating pattern.
If your strips didn't cover the card uniformly (mine didn't), you may need to cut off a bit of the base. I ended up cutting off about 1/4".
Decorate as you like. My experience has taught me that designs that follow the horizontal line across the center of the card shows off the technique well. If you cover too much of the background, the effect disappears.

I found the Strip Flip technique pretty early in my internet explorations for card ideas, so I don't know who to give credit to. This was even before I discovered Splitcoaststampers. (It’s hard to imagine that there was a time in my life that didn’t have Splitcoaststampers in it!) Technique Junkies featured a similar technique many years ago. If you search the gallery for "Rainbow Strip Flip" you will find some dated examples using stamped strips.
Here's my card.
