TLC833 ~ Peace, Love and Granola ... ~ 02/08/2021
Not too long ago, Jennifrann (Jen) uploaded a super card using the tie dye technique and she mentioned that no one else has uploaded to that technique gallery since she did, a whole year ago. I thought I'd remedy that. Here is the tutorial: Tie Dye Background Tutorial
You'll need a coffee filter, a baby wipe and some inks.....that's it!
A little history: tie dye has been around since 500-810 AD in Peru. Many countries, like Africa, Japan and China, have used tie dye for fabric. Tie dying was known in the US by 1909 when Professor Charles E. Pellow of Columbia University acquired some samples of tie-dyed muslin and gave a lecture and demonstration. Up until the late 1960's, it was simply called tying and dying. Janis Joplin and other entertainers are credited with the 1960's-1970's fad.
Here is my card: Dots by jkanack
Here is the gallery: TLC833 tie dye technique
Don't forget to upload your card to the technique gallery also.
Remember to use the keyword TLC833 when you are uploading. It's helpful if you come back and leave a link on this thread, especially in case you made a typo and people may not find your card.
If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

I have been thinking about alternatives, Jayne. It would have to be sturdy but fairly thin and able to be crumpled and handle a little wetness. Maybe you could use a dauber to apply the ink first and then just use a little of the baby wipe to make it bleed. Maybe a heavier tissue paper? I meant to experiment, maybe I'll go down to my dungeon and give a few things a try.

I am thinking off the of my head, that perhaps tissue paper ( like what is tucked in gift bags) could be used the same was as the filter too?

That looks like such a fun technique. I only have the brown filters. I will have to see if maybe my distress oxides would work better with this technique on them. I'm definitely trying this tonight after work.

If you drink tea instead of coffee you may be able to recycle your rinsed and dried tea bags. You could make up a few and then combine them to make the size you want.
There are many things that tea drinkers have done with recycled tea bags. And you can buy empty tea bags on Amazon to make your own tea or use for crafting.

I have done this technique with re-inkers in the past. This time I used some new to me ColoriQue paints. They didn't bleed as much as I thought they would.. I started with a pre-colored coffee filter. Thanks, Jean.

I only have unbleached (tan) coffee filters! Therefore, both my cards are earth tones. Happy birthday and yippee

I used a napkin instead of a coffee filter and it worked fine.
I used to love this technique "way back when". Here are my gnomes

I'm a bit late to the party, but here's my card. I used a clean dry baby wipe instead of a filter.
