TLC731 ~ Illusion with Embossing ~ {02/25/2019}

Happy Monday to you all. It's hard to believe that we're already at the end of February. I was casting around for ideas for this challenge, and I can't find that the technique of stamping on your embossing folder and then embossing a piece of card in it to add the illusion of depth has ever been featured before.
The video that I saw a couple of years back was by France Martin, Frenchie. In her first video, she added colour to the background afterwards by sponging. But when I was looking for the video to link it here, I saw that she had refined the technique a little and made it easier by adding some colour to the background piece before stamping. It will have to be a lightish colour because you'll be colouring your stamped image over it, but that's what I did for my first sample today. I used wrinkle-free distress and a couple of blue distress inks to colour my panel and then proceeded as per her video. For the bird card, because I had used waxy pencils to colour my leaves I did sponge in the colour afterwards, knowing that the pencils would largely act as resist. :idea: Top Tips: pay attention to which side of the folder you stamp on. You want to stamp on the side that DOESN'T have the raised embossing. In my case, I stamped on the side that had the Cuttlebug logo on it. The first time I tried this for a F4A challenge I used a solid stamp and I tried that again when I was working up a sample this time round. It's doable, but it's probably easier with an outline stamp, so that's what I ended up using. It's hard to get a good stamped impression stamping on the embossing folder with a solid image, even if you use a stamp positioner and stamp several times. Or that was my experience this time and my recollection from last time - feel free to try it if you wish. Remember to clean your embossing folder afterwards so you don't get an unwanted imprint on something else! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UBvOr2dfSTU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> Here's a link to our TLC731 Illusion with Embossing gallery Here are my cards: TLC731 Down in the Kelp Forest TLC731 Open-Hearted Bird This one, DH said it was nice but it would be nicer if the bird wasn't obscured by the leafy branch - which I guess means it was a success in terms of being a good challenge example. Remember to use the keyword TLC731 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread . If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how: 1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread. 2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link. 3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on) 4. Click EDIT. Click COPY 5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE. |
OOh this is so cool, I must have missed the explanation the other time you did it. :)

lol here is another tip...
don't pick a stamp image that has a sentiment with it... the words will reverse mirror print on the embossed cardstock :roll: |
this is very cool, I really enjoyed the whole process of it Sabrina,

Neat technique, Sabrina. Easier than it looks. It takes the most time to find an EF and stamp image that make sense together. Thanks.

had so much fun with this technique- added a double stamped tree for my main image. Used a winter theme for today's CAS challenge. Added a hand written sentiment and a vertical scalloped washi tape border. Here's let it snow

Thanks for the challenge Sabrina! I know I have done this before but this time it looks like (you know what)!

Hello, here is my card I made for this challenge. It is for my parents' 62nd wedding anniversary. It was a fun challenge. The only thing I am more not thrilled with is I think the background (antique linen) is a bit dark and so are the hearts (angel pink). But I still think it turned out cool. TFL
