Default TLC656 ~ Watercoloured Tissue plus Embossing ~ {09/18/2017}

Happy Monday, everybody.
Today I am bringing you a technique, Metallic Tissue Paper, which I thought looked just beautiful when I spotted it on several cards for Nancy Littrell's DTGD challenge.

We're going to add colour to plain tissue paper, and then I hope that everyone who can heat emboss will try the extra step of adding some gold (or silver!) embossing, because that is the look that really wowed me in the DTGD gallery. I just don't want anybody without the tools to heat emboss to feel that they can't play along.

Here's a video from Loll Thompson - you need to follow the first step to add colour to your tissue paper. Any water-soluble medium will work. Some give more vivid results than others. My Brusho piece, for example, came out with much more saturated colours than my distress inks. You can see the distress piece on one of my angels.

Then follow the directions (4.40 in the video) where you scrunch the dry paper up a bit, then open it out (don't smooth it entirely) and glue it to a sheet of thin card. You can even accentuate the wrinkles more at this stage.

The last stage is to carefully swipe a Versamark pad over the wrinkles, sprinkle with a metallic embossing powder and heat-emboss to create Metallic Tissue Paper.

After about 7 1/2 minutes the video goes on to another technique, acetate and tissue or "caught in crystal". Feel free to go on watching, I am sure you will enjoy it! But for the purposes of today's challenge, we are sticking to the watercolouring and embossing part, please, to create Metallic Tissue Paper.

So to recap, you will need:
plain tissue paper
watersoluble mediums such as watercolours, distress inks, Brusho and other watercolour powders.mister
drying time and patience
Versamark and embossing powder
and whatever it takes to finish your card.

For those not into videos ( that's fine, I'm generally in that group ):
1: Smoosh, sprinkle or spray your water-soluble medium onto a craft mat.
2: Spritz with water. Loll uses a palette knife to blend the colours slightly into each other which was a great idea!
3: Press your tissue paper into the colour. Essentially you are creating wrinkle-free distress background with tissue paper.
4: When the paper is dry, add wrinkle. Crumple up, and open without smoothing.
5: Cover a piece of card the same size as your tissue with Elmers or similar glue, and adhere the tissue, making sure NOT to press the wrinkles out, and even adding more if you wish. Because you will be using the heat gun for embossing, most double-sided adhesive sheets are not suitable for this step.
6: Lightly swipe Versamark over the wrinkles, add gold/ metallic embossing powder and heat.
7: Your beautiful finished piece is all ready to use as a background or to die-cut. My examples show both.
I'm adding a before and after photo of some of the small tissue panels I created using Brushos to make my angels.

TLC656 ~ Watercoloured Tissue plus Embossing ~ {09/18/2017}-tlc656tissue2c22.jpg

I'd like to thank Loll for her great video.

Top tip - maybe my tissue paper was not as good quality . I found it tore less if I left it to dry on my mat, rather than lifting it off as in the video. I thought I had some better purchased tissue paper somewhere but haven't found it yet!
Of course this technique is perfect for Fan Club members wishing to play along with this month's theme: url=//www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/monthly-themes-f51/september-2017-wrinkle-time-t620113.html#post21533470]September 2017: A Wrinkle in Time[/url]

I like the fact that you put "drying time and patience" in the list of supplies! We so often forget those are necessary.
Will use this technique as soon - hopefully tomorrow.

This is actually the second piece that came off my ink smears so the intense daffodil on my original has now become a subtle green here . . .and what be came of the first piece you might ask . . . I forgot to dust with amari magic before embossing and it turned into a gold globby MESS! (Thank heavens I had the presence of ming to lay down a second piece of tissue instead of just wiping it off my kraft sheet.)

I liked this technique when we did it for DTGD. My only problem was that my tissue paper kept tearing. I tried to be more careful when handling the wet paper this time. I only tore one piece out of the three that I made. Thanks for bringing this technique to the TLC Sabrina!

Only two weeks into a Celebrate Recovery ministry and we've had our first death, an OD in a recent graduate from a recovery home in our town. Several of the current residents in the program are attending our group. I made a batch of cards using a large sheet I prepared and will have a few more to make to send to those involved.Shared Sorrow

I love this challenge, the results are so pretty! I used a very thin light blue tissue, which I watercoloured with red, purple, and dark blue, then embossed with both silver, and hologram highlights for a bit of sparkle.

Here's my card!
