Default TLC627 ~ Seashells By the Sea Shore ~ {02/27/2017}

Gem Sells Seashells By The Seashore.

A quick and easy technique today - no folds! I learned how to make shells like these a few years back when I came across a most beautiful card in the gallery, by Gem35, and I have been making them a couple of times a year ever since.

All you need is thin card, something to score with, and a score-board or even just a firm mat. I've made two examples to show you - the pale one was scored with a ruler and stylus on a mouse mat, the other one was scored on my Scor-Pal.

Take a small square or rectangle of card. I took my photo on my cutting mat to give a sense of scale - about 2" x 3, or smaller if you like.

I've found it easiest to score down the centre first, and then continue scoring along each side, radiating out from the centre on the top edge.

Turn over, so that the valleys of the score lines are on the underside.
Trim to a sort of oval shell shape.
Sponge with inks or colour as you like. The one on the left is the one I made just using a stylus, ruler and a mousemat. The scoring is not as crisp but still looks perfectly fine!

Optional extra - you can give it a more realistic shell finish by finishing with varnish.

Decorate your card.

Here's a link to our TLC627 Seashells By the Seashore gallery

Here are my framed shells: TLC627 To Find a Seashell

Remember to use the keyword TLC627 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

Thank you, Sabrina, this was very fun. It took me longer to figure out what to do with my seashells than it took to make them! Here is my card, Moments.

Sabrina - this was such a fun technique to make seashells and I love how they curve on their own volition as you put in the score lines. I wanted to start playing early this morning but had a scheduled visit with the Opthamologist (and those take FOREVER) It gave me lots of time to make a plan for my card

Smile TLC627 Dolphin Wish

Sabrina- wonderful challenge! I couldn't find my embossing tool, so I used the dull side of a butter knife for my seashell lines- and as I had just finished a direct to paper underwater scene, this worked out as the perfect pairing! Used a distressed white sentiment panel from stamping buddies, and a double tie twine combo to compliment my seashells on my Dolphin Wish card.

Here's mine. I improvised with a mouse pad and rounded end of a small paint brush since I don't have a stylus. It sufficed.

Fabulous challenge. I missed doing it the week it came out. The Featured Stamper Challenge led me to give it a try.
