TLC622 ~ Z Box Fold ~ 01/23/2017

5 Attachment(s)
Good Monday Morning, everybody. It's Sabrina here this week, with my first TLC challenge of the year. I have been admiring the various Z Box Fold cards coming through the gallery the last couple of months, and then Deb Valder did a tutorial for the Weekly Inkling - you can find it HERE in the tutorials section. I thought that the best way of making sure I found time to try it out was to use it as the TLC challenge this week ;-).

Deb uses a piece that folds up slightly smaller than a regular A2 card front, and does some cutting and reverse folding, then mounts it on an A2 panel.
That's what I did for my sample, but another option is to fold a regular Z fold card and then fold a strip as shown in the photos below, and stick it on. If you look at it, you will see that effectively the narrow strip is the z fold scored in reverse. I'm sorry, I did have everything written out with measurements and scoring lines (and metric measurements) but my post got corrupted and I can't remember all the details. But the measurements I used for the second type of fold are clearly visible if you click on the attachment below.

Remember that when a Z Fold card is closed, part of it is hidden. If you like, you can make this an integral part of the design as I did with my sample; the rainbow word and and die-cut are hidden when the card is closed.

Here's my card: TLC622 Sending Sunshine
and inside: TLC622 Sunshine and Rainbows

 Remember to use the keyword TLC622 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

Upload tip

Remember that we have a special gallery for this, and it's great to upload to it and build a library of inspiration.

Simply choose Technique Spotlight for the first dropdown option and...
Z Box Fold for the second option.
And of course it will also always show in your member gallery.

I have tried many many times to upload my card for today and continue to get ERROR. It is HERE on my blog if you care to take a look.

muscrat 01-23-2017 04:24 AM

Sabrina, I cut to your sizes but the 1" piece doesn't fold to fit.....

muscrat 01-23-2017 04:52 AM

I've got my large piece ready. Used some new DSP! But i.'m not attaching until I hear if anyone has figure on the 1" add on piece. If I tape on as shown, it doesn't fold flat to fit in an envelope.

Cook22 01-23-2017 05:01 AM

Sorry you're having problems, Kathy. I've already mailed mine so I can't check, and I was working late today so I won't be home for a while to cut another one. I may have used a square envelope without thinking about it, but certainly the strip didn't overhang.

muscrat 01-23-2017 05:13 AM

I've changed the score to 4 1/4", and 6 3/8. Seems to fit better

stampingwriter 01-23-2017 05:15 AM

How funny Sabrina. I just left a message on a blog where someone had done a "double z fold" telling her I was off to find directions. Looks like I stumbled right onto them. Hope to find time this week to work on this.

Cook22 01-23-2017 05:19 AM

Okay, so now I've got WiFi access. Your 1"strip is scored at 41/4 for the first score. And with the Z fold open, you stick that so that only half of it is stuck to the front of the card. The other half, as far as the score, will lie over the folded back part of the card. Then fold it back in along the 4 " fold (mountain fold), and then back out (valley) along the 6 1/8" fold. So the second half of the 1" strip , starting from the first score @ 4" ends up folded back in under the first part, and then out again so the end of the strip is flush with the 4" score.Maybe I should have drawn the score lines in with a colour...

Cook22 01-23-2017 05:24 AM

CORRECTION
For the one inch strip, in my version, score it at 4 1/4" and 6 3/8" as Kathy has pointed out. I'll correct the photo when I'm home from work.

Yes, now I do the maths. I had all the measurements written out and double-checked last week, including metric. And when I checked the challenge last night ( thank goodness I did!!), the whole thing had fallen into a black hole. So I was scrambling to rewrite from memory. I'll edit the photo when I get home from work. Thank you for spotting that!

Made mine an anniversary card. Used some new DSP.

Great Sabrina! I've been wanting to make one of these too. Now I've got the perfect excuse.

Fun challenge, Sabrina and a fantastic reason to see how I could use my new SB Neighborhood die (one of my Christmas gifts to myself) . . . Here is my card:

Here's my card - front,

and open.

I started with a 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" card base, so it ends up as a normal A2 card.

What's the difference between a z box fold and a z fold card? I think I uploaded to the wrong gallery...?

I was also confused between the Z Box Fold and the Z Fold categories when I uploaded my card. I followed Deb Valder's turtorial when making mine. Eclectic TLC622 by Beeker - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
