TLC51 - Heated Ribbon

Good morning, stampers! Did you all have fun with FEBVSN??? I hope so!
I hope you have some creativity left to play the TLC! LOL! I know you all...of course you do! :)

Today's challenge comes from Nancy Littrell, and it is Heated Organdy Ribbon. Thanks so much, Nancy!

You just use organdy ribbon and tie double or single ribbons. Double is a fuller effect. Then start heating carefully with your heat tool. Some ribbons curl real quick and others take awhile, such as SU organdy. Just be careful not to burn fingers or ribbon. It is a fun effect.

Here's one example from Nancy's gallery:
//www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=214999&cat=500&ppuser=18672

And here is one that has been in my gallery for a while:
//www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=98014&cat=500&ppuser=11007

As always, if you have questions, please ask. If you have suggestions, please share!
When you upload, please put TLC51 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.
If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

Beth, this is so interesting!
THanks for your time and energy to post this for us!
Going off to dream something up!

Jeanne S 02-13-2006 05:02 AM

Nancy does the best heated ribbon ever! Glad you chose her's for an example.

Rox71 02-13-2006 05:04 AM

I had some old demo cards given to me to recycle for the troops and kids and I saw this curly edged ribbon on a couple and thought you just bought it that way and wondered where. Thanks Beth for the answer! There is no end to what people come up with is there!

lacyquilter 02-13-2006 05:07 AM

Oooooooo! Love your sample, Beth. Great challenge!

May I make a suggestion? You used to add a link to instructions for uploading & posting a link in your challenge post. Since there have been so many new participants lately, you might want to reinstate that. I know that I've referred people to that when they needed the how to's.

Thanks,

stamphappy6805 02-13-2006 05:18 AM

Do you put the ribbon on the card before you heat it to curl it or after? Just a little confused. Thanks again for VSN.

Great idea, I was looking for that for a newbie a while back and couldn't find it so I just typed out insturctions.

Anita

I would think you'd want to put the ribbon on your card first. If you want it like Beth's sample, looks like you want it loose, because the heat will shrink it.

trudee 02-13-2006 05:45 AM

Oh I like doing this! FUN, Beth!!!!!!

I tried this once before on another TLC that I did. I will post this one and try to do another today. Right now I feel like CRAP but nothing a little sinus medication won't cure.http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...0&ppuser=14062

winnie_555 02-13-2006 06:18 AM

Oh! What a great idea! Too bad I don't have any ribbon of this type...looks like a trip to the craft store is in order. Any excuse is a good excuse, right?

Julia S 02-13-2006 06:21 AM

I love doing this and it's so easy! Hopefully I'll find some time to play again...I'm in a stamping withdrawal and it's not pretty.:)

lacyquilter 02-13-2006 06:31 AM

Here's one from my gallery -- a whole different take on the idea!

ribbon rose -- I curled the ribbon around, held it with an alligator clip to heat it.

I have to make an unexpected trip to the store, because I need a new spritzer bottle for a class tomorrow. Mine won't give me a fine mist - grrr! Tried cleaning it & nothing works, so I hope I can find a good one. Any ideas where, ladies?

So, it's going to be awhile before I can play.

DawnL 02-13-2006 06:35 AM

example of a little toooooo much heat? lol..;)...but I like it.. will play more later!! Thanks Beth.. funfunfun!!!

pending as of 10:30am est

Melody,
For a mist bottle try your local beauty supply store or Walmart in the health and beauty section :)

DawnL 02-13-2006 06:38 AM

Thanks, Kathy,

I was thinking maybe Walgreen's beauty dept. because it's only 5 min. away.

This was a fun challenge - I've never done this technique before. It took a few times to get the heat just right. I only burned it twice! LOL!

StampinSweetie 02-13-2006 07:42 AM

Ok, ok this looks like fun. I'll try this one later, but I won't be able to upload till tonite when my hubby hooks up our new scanner. Dumb question...do you heat the ribbon before or after you tie it onto the card?

kittie747 02-13-2006 08:10 AM

You can also heat the metallic ribbon....although you need to do it carefully. I'm attaching a card a did a while back as an example. I'll do a new card tonight when I get home.

Here is one from my gallery a long, long time ago. I will try to get another one done here soon. Thanks for reminding me of this technique Beth. I love the heated ribbon, and today is a good day to play with anything hot! It's cold here! lol

The best mister I ever found was from Walgreens in the health and beauty dept. Ridiculously overpriced (of course!) but the mist is super fine. :)

I will put the upload how-to link back in the first post, Melody. Thanks for the reminder and especially thanks for helping out the newbies!

Are ya feelin' better yet?

lacyquilter 02-13-2006 09:56 AM

I found some misters (uh, don't I wish) 'spritzers' at Walgreen's beauty dept. They are just like the bottles stampin' mist comes in - 2 for $3 - I guess that wasn't too bad. The had the trigger spray bottles, too, but those usually are a heavy spray, not a mist. Thanks, ladies.

I think it would work best to attach it to the card first.

Another note to all: One of my customers told me that if you curl your ribbon just a little & don't like it, you can wet it and straighten it back out. I don't think this will work if you've heated it a lot.

Not a dumb question at all! You can do it both ways. For my card, I heated the ribbon first and then adhered to the card. (I think...I made it a long time ago!). Or you can tie it on and then heat it.

heart 02-13-2006 10:18 AM

Ok...this was funny! I scorched several ribbons into bacon strips till I got it right!
