TLC39: Paper Piecing
This week's TLC is the “Paper Piecing” technique. This was the challenge for NOVVSNC, posted by "elliesmom". If you have already made one for the VSN, you know how much fun this technique is! If not, I didn't want you all to miss it! :)

Here are the examples she posted:

I fell in love with the baby one!
You can see many more in the gallery by searching on NOVVSNC.

Here's how, from elliesmom:

Step 1. Stamp your image that will use the paper piecing twice, once on neutral cardstock and once on patterned cardstock or paper. You can use a print paper or create your own.

Step 2. Cut out the part of the patterned image that will be pieced onto the neutral image. You can cut on just the inside or even a bit outside of the line. Apply your adhesive and put in place.

Step 3. Finish your card with your image and embellishments and such, just like usual.

As always, if you have questions, please ask. If you have suggestions, please share!

When you upload, please put TLC39 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.

If you need help uploading or posting a link to this thread, check out this link:

If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

I love this technique now, too! (I can't take the credit for the idea, though; I was merely stepping into someone else's shoes.) I hope everyone gives this a shot. It's not as difficult as it may seem, but it gives great results. :)

Jeanne S 11-21-2005 08:07 AM

Good morning,
I learned this technique many years ago before I started stamping. The way I learned it was a little different from the above directions. You draw a picture, then trace everything you wanted to be a different color, cut out and layer and glue. So much easier with stamps:)

Here's a link to the one I did for VSN which is a combo of the two techniques:

I'm gonna try one with ellismom's technique today!

my4blessings 11-21-2005 08:22 AM

Now Beth, why won't those links work for me? I really want to see! Is it just me?

Yes, I'm afraid they don't work for me either

stampinsusie 11-21-2005 09:27 AM

They won't open for me, either. And I'm sooooo instruction-challenged. I'm a hands-on-learner! It will take me a while to figure out this one. I do so love paper piercing, though.

WeimFamily 11-21-2005 09:29 AM

I had to see these - and they are great. Here are elliesmom's paper piecing samples from her gallery (I hope these links work):

showmestamper 11-21-2005 09:53 AM

THANK YOU, Sandi! I appreciate you posting the links! I have fixed the links in the original post too.

stampinsusie 11-21-2005 10:44 AM

And I just noticed it's paper piecing! Not paper piercing like I thought it said.

I am so not sure if I understand what I am doing but I am working on it now.:)

Granny Hawkins 11-21-2005 12:16 PM

This is the way I understood the challenge. Hope it is at least close to what we are suppose to be doing.

Pending at 3:15PM Eastern

EDITED TO ADD: I had to click on the stop X to get it to show up.

showmestamper 11-21-2005 12:20 PM

Granny, you crack me up! :) Thanks for making me smile.

Editted to add: we posted as the same time, Granny! I can't wait til your creation is approved so we can see it. :)

stampinsusie 11-21-2005 02:28 PM

Here's my attempt. I hope someone will tell me whether or not I did this correctly.

querida 11-21-2005 03:07 PM

This is the one I did for VSN, but I love this technique, and I have NO school this week, so I'll have to do another!!

StamperSharon 11-21-2005 03:27 PM

I LOVED this technique for VSN, too, so I'm happy to get to do it again this week! Thanks Beth. Here's my example I did for VSN and I'll be back with more!

off_the_wall 11-21-2005 04:45 PM

jeanstamping2 11-21-2005 09:33 PM

Here's one I did a while back

I hope the link work's.

Chatty Cathy 25 11-22-2005 08:39 AM

Help. I want to enter the challenge for yesterday but it doesn't look like paper piercing as I know it. It appears to be layering. If I just follow the exact directions of the challenge, would that be correct. There is no real "Paper Piercing" with a long needle or tool, correct.

Thanks for your help and Happy Thanksgiving.

Rox71 11-22-2005 09:24 AM

I have mine done. I stamped the clown once on white then did the clown suit on decorative paper, cut the suit out and attached it to the clown on the white cardstock rather than coloring in his clown suit. Am I right?

Here's my clown card

Rachelhope13 11-22-2005 10:29 AM

I'm going to try this again....

Chatty Cathy 25~It is Paper Piecing not Paper Piercing...No R. I did the same thing for VSN and again today. :) HTH.

Here is what I did for VSN, I loved it and I think I'm going to make a whole wardrobe. :)

cindybstampin 11-22-2005 01:55 PM

I am so glad I could take part in this fun challenge!
I don't think the burgundy paper show up too well on the darker flower because it is so small.

cindybstampin 11-22-2005 01:59 PM

And here is the other one. Maybe one of you can tell me how to put a link to two at once... Thanks!

my4blessings 11-22-2005 02:12 PM

Here's mine. Thanks for another great challenge!

yungs 11-22-2005 06:17 PM

The hardest part of this challenge is finding the right stamp to use! Here's my card!

CardFanatic 11-23-2005 08:38 AM

I'm not sure I have the right idea, but I tried.

Rox71 11-23-2005 09:35 AM

I did another one with the flower being the paper piecing. I used sticker paper this time and often do that with snowmen on recycled Christmas scenery cards…just didn’t know it had a name.

Here's my card

jeanstamping2 11-23-2005 01:08 PM

I have added two more paper pieced cards in my gallery.
But here one.
I made this one for swap that was made with Non Christmas colors

JJStamper 11-23-2005 05:35 PM

Here is mine. I think this is what we were supposed to do...

Chatty Cathy 25 11-23-2005 06:32 PM

I just posted my first card to Challenge TLC 39. Hope I did it correctly.....just uploaded thru the home page with the challenge # as the keyword. Now I don't know how to get it here in my quick note. Think I need a little help.

Happy Thanksgiving
