TLC288 ~ Recycled Cardboard Boxes ~ 8-30-10
Hello everyone!!! Are you ready to have a little fun today??? I hope you have a box sitting around because we are going to cut it up and create some fun accessories!!!
You can decorate the whole box if you want. You can also make a background or use stamps such as flowers, butterflies, buttons, or birds to make some fun details out of the cardboard for your card. I have created a tutorial for you showing the steps I used to create a background, large flower, smaller flowers, and a Christmas bird with a banner sentiment. You can find the Recycled Cardboard Box Tutorial here. Some things to remember when stamping on cardboard: 1. The colors show up darker on the cardboard so you might want to use a lighter color than what you had planned. 2. Press a little harder with solid stamps because of the uneven surface. 3. For a shabby look, tear off some of the top paper to expose the corrugated areas. 4. I could use my dies to cut the cardboard if I tore off the top layer first. If you run it through intact, it will only cut the top layer and you will have to cut the rest of the way with your scissors. Here are my samples: Polka Dot Flower Cherish Shabby Christmas Card Remember, when uploading to use the keyword TLC288 (no spaces) You can find the entire TLC288 gallery here. Have fun and now you have an excuse to order some goodies online so you can use the box...WOOT!!! |
I love using scrap cardboard instead of seeing it go to waste! I hope to try this tomorrow!! :)

I love using cardboard on cards. I checked out your tutorial. I hadn't thought to separate the layers on an image like you did. Great technique.

OOOH! I love using recycled supplies. I always have loads of plastic, cardboard, fabric, etc. lying around the craft room. I love the embellishments you made and can hardly wait to get at it.

Hey, Joan, what a great idea...and I, too love the idea of recycling. Everytime I throw out a somewhat damaged cardboard box, I wonder what else I could be doing instead of making more land-fill. Thank you so much! Very good thought for us & the environment.

Joan can I just give you a huge hug? I think this cardboard idea is fabulous!!!!!!!! One I will be using many times over. Thank you!

Cool idea, but our office Macaw gets all my spare cardboard. He loves to shred it. I guess I'll have to fight him for a piece!
