This is fantastic but I have a question "probably silly" but I will ask anyway. How does the card close with these deep windows recessed into them? Or do you pop the card front onto the card base after it's finished to make it level?

This took some trial and error and some scrap paper to get the idea of how this worked, but I finally got it. And it wasn't all that hard... just time consuming. Here is my card.

For my card, I created the window on a card front, not the card itself. After getting the front finished, I cut two pieces of cardstock (to accomodate the thickeness of the folds) the size of the card front and cut out windows that matched the size of the box created on the back. Then I adhered these to the card front and the whole thing to the card base. So when finished, it is four times as thick as a normal card on the front (base, two inserts, card front) but it is flat on the back and closes just like a normal card with no uneven bulkiness.

I tried it. It looks kind of okay from the outside, but if I open the card it looks dreadful - I am sure I am doing something wrong... Can anyone show the inside of her card? PLEASE

The card closes, but not flat (obviously). The recessed window IS part of the card. Like I said in my instructions...additional padding or hand delivery is a better option.

I used the piece of additional cardstock and adhered it to the backside to hid the ugly...lol I also stamped a sentiment on the the cardstock to make it look like it was "supposed" to be there.

Well, you sure made us work this morning, Lynn - at least me! But, I love the end results and now that I see it really is easy, I'm sure I'll be making more of these - in the future! Here's my

I found some Sizzix frames over the weekend. I was thinking of cutting one out with a coaster and dp - what do you think?

Not so sure about this. I like the technique but I need to think more about how to use it. Or maybe I need not to feel I am shirking the housework. It's months since I've had to work on a Monday, not used to it!!

I found this one a little difficult, first I did not cut my shadow box large enough so that when I added the scalloped Nestie you can still see the DP of the DP. Maybe I will have better luck next time. LOL

I vote Garden Diva make a tutorial for this technique, lol ... Wonderful idea, Lynn ... and thanks, Garden Diva for the step by step. I thought I had it figured out from the diagram, but was worried when I saw some of us had trouble ... Garden Diva's pictures made it that much clearer.
Thanks again

In the spirit of the challenge, I re-did my card to the real recessed window. The design is the same otherwise.

Here is my card for today:
SYMPATHY RECESSED WINDOW
I just couldn't figure out how to attatch my card front with the window to my card base without having a gap created by the window???? Any thoughts...do you cut a square in the card base so the window pops through to the inside of the card??

My card base contained my window, thus I didn't have to attach it to anything. My window "pops through to the inside of the card".

wow, what a challenge for a Monday, lol. But challenges are good - they get your brain cells working (or so I've heard). This one was a little intimidating at first, but oh so easy once you "get it".
Thanks Lynn for challenging us with this technique - it really does make for some pretty cards.
