TLC201 Fun Funky Fold

When is Squash Book not a book? When it is a card, of course. For today's technique we will take the basic folding premise of a squash book, but turn it into a fun and different card.

For those of you who have made a Squash Book before, this will be simple and very familiar to you. For those of you who have NOT made a Squash Book before (like me), don't let the directions scare you. I know that many of you have posted before on other techniques saying, "I thought this was going to be so hard, but it really wasn't once I got started" - well, you are going to be saying that after today too!

What you will need for today's technique:[LIST][*]Designer Paper or cardstock[*]Stamps[*]Ribbon for card closure OR get creative and make a belly band for this card instead[*]Bone Folder[*]A scoring tool (bone folder & ruler - Scor-It - Scor Pal[*]A fearless attitude about learning a new fold

I have provided a step by step visual tutorial, which can be viewed in post #10. I will continue to get this file uploaded as a PDF as well, since I know that everyone cannot access word documents. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

What fun, Lynn - here we gi!

Cook22 12-29-2008 03:57 AM

Oh, fun fun fun. I LOVE folds. But it's just lunchtime here, so got to go and sort DH out - but I'll be back soon.

I keep getting loading, redirecting and stopping all the time on your link - I'd say it's not working properly. I have an account with Google and signed in, but it's just stuck in a loop.

Vicky Gould 12-29-2008 03:57 AM

Sorry, Lynn, the link lead me to the google home page on how to create a doc.

Lynn in St. Louis 12-29-2008 03:58 AM

Thanks for the feedback Vicky. I have PM a mod on SCS, but haven't heard back. I'll keep trying so please be patient. Oy, the stress...lol

Try this ladies. It's taken about 9 attempts to get this to upload. I'll still keep working to find a way to get the PDF uploaded, as I know that not everyone can access word documents.

DawnL 12-29-2008 04:09 AM

thanks Lynn! it's working now!...although some of it is garbled :(

I looked at your example (folded one)...pretty easy to see what to do from that;)

debdeb 12-29-2008 04:16 AM

Thanks Lynn! I love making these little squash books, and the card version looks fun and easy! Thanks for your perseverance in getting the instructions uploaded! :)

TreasureOiler 12-29-2008 04:25 AM

lacyquilter 12-29-2008 04:25 AM

I think I figured out all the folding from your gallery pictures. And you're right - it does look easy. Thanks, Lynn.

Loree2000 12-29-2008 04:39 AM

The tutorial worked for me......Looks like a ton of scoring! Cute books.

Lynn in St. Louis 12-29-2008 04:41 AM

It just looks that way, there really aren't that many. You may want to practice on typing paper first, just to see how easy it really is.

What a super-fun challenge Lynn! Thanks! I can't wait to give this a try.

Cook22 12-29-2008 05:09 AM

I can't get that doc to open. Well, I can - but I can see about 3 photos are layered on top of each other and because it's read only I can't move them.
But - I've looked at your picture long enough to realise that I have made a squash book and you are just using one piece of paper instead of 3 - so now I'm up and running - and DH is fed and watered in the mean time.

cullenwr 12-29-2008 05:15 AM

Easy and so fun...thanks, Lynn, for another great new (for me) technique!!
Here is my CLOSED VERSION and here is the FUNKY FOLD.

Fun Funky Fold Thanks - Closed
Fun Funky Fold Thanks - Open

Sorry about all your troubles, Lynn.
Hope I did it right!! I had fun, anyway.

inkpad 12-29-2008 06:24 AM

This is a great fold - thanks so much for this challenge! I'll have to do some more of these. I seem to recall doing a Mother's Day card with a similar fold years ago - before Splitcoast.

This is my first challenge in ages and my first card with the monkey. I've had this little guy pieced together since August and finally found a home for him on this fun fold.
