Default MMTPT549 ~ January 29, 1019 ~ If You Build It...

WELCOME TO TEAPOT TUESDAY CHALLENGE MMTPT549

If You Build It...

Anyone is welcome to play in the weekly Teapot Challenge - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a “TEApotter” the first time you play. Where will you find ]inspiration? Will it be from the teapot or from the challenge theme itself? Remember, your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not a requirement. Just have fun!

It's the last Tuesday of the month, so it's time for the first Tickle a Teapotter of the year, and we are delighted to have

Jean, jkanack as our guest hostess. She has a fun and educational challenge for us - here it is:

Frank Lloyd Wright was born in 1867 in Richland Center, WI and was an American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator, who designed more than 1,000 structures, 532 of which were completed, and furniture and stained glass windows for the insides of the buildings. Wright believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was best exemplified by Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture" His creative period spanned more than 70 years.

Wright was the pioneer of what came to be called the Prairie School movement of architecture, and he also developed the concept of the Usonian home in Broadacre City, his unique vision for urban planning in the United States.

He designed the Guggenheim Museum in NYC, the SC Johnson Co. building in Racine, WI, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa, WI, Taliesen in Spring Green, WI and homes and buildings all over the US and around the world. In 1991, the American Assoc. of Architects chose him as the greatest American architect of all time. He was also known (infamously) for his colorful personal life.

CHALLENGE: Create a project about architecture, designing, building supplies, furniture. Think about what goes into designing and building organic structures particularly. If you google Frank Lloyd Wright, you can see images of many of the structures he designed and his stained glass and furniture.

DESTINATION STATION:
This week our destination is each other! Once a month, we send our cards to each other!

Check out THIS NEW THREAD in the TEApot Tuesday Extras Forum. If you are participating in the card exchange please go to this thread and follow the instructions. Make sure to sign up by bedtime on Saturday 2nd of February, as I will do the draw the next morning.

Here is Jean's card: Stay Close to Nature

Here is a quick link to the MMTPT549 gallery

Be sure to use KEYWORD MMTPT549 in your upload and post a comment here so we can all see your card!

Do you know someone that could use some well wishes, encouragement or all around warm fuzzies? Consider nominating them as a guest of honor (a.k.a. destination station) for an upcoming tea party. Post your request HERE or send a PM to jacqueline.

I thought Jean's challenge was such fun! I have two cards on the go...but unfortunately this wretched 'flu means that they are both still sitting incomplete on my desk. I hope to be along with them in a couple of days.

Thank you, Jean for an inspiring challenge. I hope to explore Franks furniture and windows later on this week. For now, I have brought one of his quotes to the gallery.

Super challenge Jean. I use to live in a neighborhood that had many homes inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. It was a beautiful area full of amazing homes. Here is my card:

okay you all need to just send me all of your cards....make a second one for someone else, ok?????? i'm blown away by all your creativity and ideas and am so happy you're having fun with this. So my address is in the teapot spread sheet, it's the only one you need! Jean Bean is indeed the dancing queen today (although if Susan indeed has two left feet, I'll dance with someone else!)

Jean and I were lucky enough to graduate from Florida Southern College which has the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in the world. They have a FLW heritage center there now. We were surrounded and infused with FLW the four years we attended. If you ever have the chance to visit Lakeland, FL, be sure to tour the campus. I will definitely be making a card for this challenge. I just have to decide exactly what to make.

I know what you mean. I freaked out and texted Jacqueline because on Thursday there were only 8 cards in my gallery and I knew there were 15 when I uploaded mine! Where did they go? Lost in cyberspace for awhile. Jacqueline sent a message to Lydia and voila! they were back. Crazy.

My parents lived in Lakeland in the winters for many years ~ they used to take us around to see the beautiful FLW buildings. Good memories.

Jean, what a fantastic challenge this was today! I loved it. I live in a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home. This is just one side of the house and all 4 sides are completely different from each other. Some people say we live in a weird house, but I prefer to say Unique instead. Ha! ~Karen.

Thank you Jean for the neat challenge. I was not sure how to go with building so went with stained glass. Here is my Window for my fellow tickler.

Wow, awesome challenge, Jean. I was going to do something boring until I saw all the cool cards people created. As is getting to be my habit, I might have been a tad ambitious, as the card isn't quite what was in my head. Be sure to follow the link on the description to see what inspired it.
Also seconding whoever recommended the book Loving Frank, which was very interesting.
I seem to remember back when I worked for the Atlanta newspapers we had a story on a building he'd designed in Atlanta, one of his very first commissioned works. It was a small, very ordinary looking office building, nothing like what he'd go on to do. (but it's possible I've mixed up famous architects and am thinking of someone totally different).
