Default MMTPT539 ~ November 20, 2018 ~ Go for the Gold

WELCOME TO TEAPOT TUESDAYCHALLENGE #MMTPT539
“Go for the Gold”

Hello, and welcome to the Tea Party!

Anyone is welcome to play - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a “TEApotter” the first time you play in our challenge. Where will you find inspiration? Will it be from the teapot? The destination location? Something of the recipient? Or could it be from the challenge itself? Remember, your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not a requirement. Just have fun!

CHALLENGE:
We are sending cards this week to one of our own who is battling breast cancer. Please use pink or gold on your card. Also, Ellen is encouraging us to stay current on our mammograms, so a clock or calendar, or a time theme would be appropriate.
Ellen loves dramatic backgrounds, gold borders and diecuts. Thinking of You, Encouragement or Spiritual cards would be welcome. Let’s help Ellen go for the gold and win her battle with cancer.

DESTINATION STATION:
Our dear friend, Susie (aka susie australia) has requested a teaparty for another sweet Splitcoaststamper pal, Ellen, also known as Eager Beaver. Ellen has been battling breast cancer and is kicking its *****; however she has experienced many changes over her course of chemo and has been very candid about the side effects it’s had on her body. One being neuropathy which hinders her ability to perform simple tasks such as buttoning her blouse, picking up small objects and stamping/cardmaking. Ellen is speaking up to share with other women some of the details of what’s involved in living with cancer and stress the importance of early detection. It’s been a tough battle for Ellen but, she is a fighter. It doesn’t hurt that she’s got a winning attitude and the power of prayer on her side too. Let’s all get behind Ellen and help her fight this battle. And, if you haven’t had a mammogram, or are overdue for one, schedule an appointment now. Let’s save some boobies!

SEND YOUR CARDS TO:
Ellen Bishop
323 Bidwell Ave.
Waukesha,WI 53188
USA

Here is a QUICK LINK to the MMTPT539 gallery.

Be sure to use KEYWORD MMTPT539 in your upload and post a comment here so we can all see your card!

Do you know someone that could use some well wishes, encouragement or all around warm fuzzies? Consider nominating them as a guest of honor (a.k.a. destination station) for an upcoming tea party. Post your request HERE or send a PM to Jacqueline.

Here's mine. Weird, I could have sworn I took a photo of it over the weekend after I finished it, but not on my memory card, not on my PC, not even in the recycle bin - so back downstairs with the card. Lucky I hadn't already sent it!

When I read today's recipient and what she likes, my mind went to a card I made over a year ago for a DTGD challenge which I have never sent. Today I have found the perfect recipient and this will be going out in the mail to Ellen today : ) I know it's not a new creation, but now I know what I've been hanging onto this card for!

Default Thank You Pat

I wanted to check out the t-party. I will NOT be sending any cards in the next month for sure as Canada post is on strike and it might be a couple months before they get anything, so came on here to see whom I can keep in prayers. HUGS to all.

Had mine checked recently and encourage anyone who hasn't to do it today. We think a day or month won't make a difference, but cancer can grow fast.

On Thanksgiving day, I gave Ellen a heads-up that there will be a lot of paper love and prayers coming her way. She was overwhelmed when she had a sneak peep in the gallery. Here is a message for all of us. I can't wait for all the cards to start arriving, I will post any updates here. I don't think Ellen is well enough to comment individually just yet.

Here is her message....

I hope everyone REALLY does keep up with their mammograms! The earlier you catch it the better the quality of your recovery. I was shocked to learn I have 3 different types of breast cancer. As I'm going through this the doctors and therapists have warned me of things that may be going to happen to me from the chemotherapy and the mastectomy that can have an effect on me. I've noticed they don't tell you these things all at once in the beginning. They just slip it in here and there so as to not overwhelm you. Things such as: you can have nausea for months and may not be able to hold down a job; you can get edema from the operation and have your arm swell up quite a bit and have pain in it when you reach out to turn on the lamp next to your chair or take something out of a cupboard, if you can even extend your arm that far; you can, and probably will, get neuropathy (numbness) in your feet, legs and hands which can cause you to walk around like you're drunk and lose your balance easily and have trouble picking up small items like coins, paperclips, little things you want to attach to a card you're making, etc.; writing with pen or pencil becomes harder; you will drop things you think you're still holding on to. And the neuropathy probably will not go away entirely, but it might lessen in intensity. You probably will always be tired during the weeks of chemo, especially if you also need to have radiation. Also, after the operation, you will probably have several narrow plastic tubes about 20 or so inches long coming out of one or both of your sides with a grenade shaped flexible plastic container attached to their ends that you must empty of drainage several times a day for up to about 6 weeks. I'm sure there are things they haven't told me yet. I have now or have had all of the above (except for the nausea, thank you God!) and I'm sorry if I've offended anyone with this information, but I really wish someone had been this straight forward with me about the perils of breast cancer years ago. It had always been just something people got and other people collected donations for. I never ever had any real knowledge of anyone experiencing it. It is not a good thing and I pray no one else will ever have to go through this. But you know that's not realistic. But you know how to limit your own personal experience with breast cancer. PLEASE, get your mammograms! We have to get real with our lives!

Splitcoast Stampers is a village of some very special people who are talented and caring people. I wish you all God's blessings and a special wish that none of you will ever experience any type of cancer or other horrid diseases.

Love you all, Ellen

Thanks for listening.

Thanks for sharing Ellens message with us, Susie. Yes, there are so many things that we never think about or imagine till we encounter them. I had been trying to come up with a challenge for HYCCT featuring lifting restrictions, after a friend said she got a lot of puzzled looks when asking for help with her cabin luggage after a mastectomy. And I always felt bad that when we had a friend staying with us post-op, I wasn't able to style her hair properly for her, being a " wash and go" person myself. I remember being so nervous changing her dressings, too...I'd never have made a good nurse. Sadly she died later from secondary cancer, but I still have a picture she gave me as a thanks for making a little bolero jacket to wear with a bridesmaid's dress to cover her scar. It hangs by my bedroom door and I often think of her.

Heart Message from Ellen

Ellen is sending each of us a PM, it may take some time so Ellen has given me her blessing to share this with you. I cried when I got the email!!

I appreciate everyone's part in bringing all this Beautiful Rainbow of Caring into my life. The outpour of cards from our peeps on SCS has been overwhelming. Several come in every day from all over the globe. Seeing them in person I am so impressed. Ernie and family and friends are also really impressed. I feel VERY blessed.

What a wonderful thing it is to have a whole bunch of people send cards to someone who needs a little sunshine in their lives at certain trying times. That was such a good idea. I'm sure whoever had that idea for SCS is in line for, and receiving, a whole bunch of blessings. I now know personally how much sunshine and smiles it can bring into a person's life. Thanks again for popping me into line for receiving all this wonderfulness.

Special Warm Crushing Hugs, Ellen
