WELCOME TO TEAPOT TUESDAY MMTPT292 & THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING TEAPARTY for March 4, 2014
Five Companions
Hi Ladies, I hope you are all recuperated from our fun filled trip to NYC. This week's tea party is a bit somber. Our honoree is a Korean Christian who has been diagnosed with a grade 4 gliosarcoma (a rare & aggressive brain tumor). The doctors say she has a few months to live. Her favorite things are: flower prints and Korean paper folding.
To honor her Korean heritage I chose this sijo. The sijo (Korean 시조, pronounced SHEE-jo) is a traditional three-line Korean poetic form.
You ask how many friends I have?
Water and stone, bamboo and pine.
The moon rising over the eastern hill is a joyful comrade. Besides these five companions, what other pleasure should I ask?...Yon Son-do (1587-1671)
CHALLENGE TRANSLATION: Bring flowers, nature and, if possible, Scripture.
EXTRA POINTS FOR EXTRA DESSERT (EPED): Bring Asian inspired cards.
Instead of cookies, we will be feasting on traditional Korean desserts. I love the chrysanthemum. I had the opportunity to try these works of art when my friend hosted an 8th grade Korean student for a semester. He wasn't eating the desserts he brought which were even more intricate than those pictured here. When I asked him why he did not want some, he said, "these are not for children". I asked, "Why not?" He said, "Too expensive." I put a piece on his plate and he smiled. Food and sharing such a universal language.

Better late than never! I didn't even manage to fit the sketch challenge in this week.
Wonderful photos, Fran, and a lovely write-up too.
Hey fellow Teapotters. I heard from my friend. She was thrilled to receive all of the beautiful cards. She asked me to pass along her thanks to each of you for thinking of them & showering them with cards. And i would like to add my thanks for helping to lift their spirits. You ladies are the best!
