Teapot Tuesday Challenge MMTPT820
Darkest Before Dawn
Anyone is welcome to play in the weekly Teapot Challenge - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a “TEApotter” the first time you play. Where will you find inspiration? Will it be from the teapot? The destination location? Something of the recipient? Or could it be from the challenge itself? Remember, sending your card to the listed guest of honor is 100% voluntary - it's not a requirement but will be very well appreciated. Just have fun!

This week's challenge hostess is: jacqueline / Jacqueline

Nancy Williams requested this week's Tea Party for her friend, Theresa. Theresa recently lost her husband, Randy, and is very down. She was so in love with Randy and his loss has been very hard for her. Randy was very protective of Theresa and didn’t want her to know he was sick, so he hid his illness from her. He eventually started having severe complications from the tumors but by then it was too late, and he quickly passed. Theresa is a very sweet woman who loves the South, flowers, her family – including her sisters and grandchildren, and photos/memories.

CHALLENGE: Things always seem to get worse before they get better – even in the worst of circumstances there is hope. The phrase “it is always darkest just before the day dawneth” has been around since the late 17th Century after English Theologian and historian, Thomas Fuller, wrote it in his travelogue while visiting the Holy Land. Incidentally, dawn is the point when it is possible to detect light in the sky, sunrise is when the sun reaches the horizon – the time in between is twilight. Aside from light cast from the moon and other celestial bodies, the darkest part of the night is after dusk and before dawn.

When I first read Nancy’s request, I immediately went to this quote. Things may seem dark now for Theresa while she’s grieving but, in time, the light will reappear in her life. Your challenge is to use at least two or three colors to create a gradient (ombre), either in your background or as an element in your card, to symbolize the transition from darkness to dawn. Ink blending is what I thought of first, but you can also achieve this effect by blending colored pencils or Copic (or other alcohol) markers, paint, or simply by using varying shades of cardstock.

I am so excited we are doing this for Theresa. She stayed very close to her high school sweetheart who was a very good friend of my family too, and he passed a month ago as well. So, she has now lost the two great loves of her life. Thanks everyone!!!!

Theresa just called me. She was overwhelmed by the beautiful cards from all over. She told me that it made her feel so honored and happy. Each day going to the mail was such a delight (and I am sure she will get a few more). She wanted me to thank all of you so much for reaching out and touching her like this.

Thanks to all of you who sent her cards or will send cards when you can. This is such a great place.
