Default MMTPT605 ~ February 25, 2020 ~ Kintsugi Does It

MMTPT605
Kintsugi Does It

Anyone is welcome to play in the weekly Teapot Challenge - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a “TEApotter” the first time you play. Where will you find inspiration? Will it be from the teapot or from the challenge theme itself? Remember, your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not a requirement. Just have fun!

It's the last Tuesday of the month so that means it's time for our Teapot Tuesday Tickle Challenge.

This week's challenge is brought to you by guest hostess

jkanack, Jean.

CHALLENGE:
Today's tickle challenge will be to use kintsugi (kintsukuroi) and wabi-sabi on your creation. Kintsugi is a Japanese art from around the 15th century, where lacquerware and pottery were repaired using gold, silver or platinum dust. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. It is closely associated with the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which is recognizing and embracing our imperfections and flaws.
In more modern times, kintsugi and wabi-sabi have been embraced to symbolize difficult times in our lives. All humans go through experiences that have broken us, created cracks and revealed our flaws. Instead of throwing oneself away, like a piece of broken pottery, we, through time and care, repair those broken places in ourselves and learn to accept our imperfections. In truth, in Japan, a piece of pottery which has been repaired with kintsugi is more valuable than the original.
Kintsugi was done as a MIX about 6 years ago, so it might be helpful to check out that gallery. Your creation does not have to have an Asian theme, but should have some kind of gold, silver or platinum material that resembles a repair. Kintsugi can look like a crack repaired or it can be a whole section of a piece.

Optional: Jean sent several pictures to inspire you which I have attached below and that is all you need for the challenge. But if you are on Pinterest and would like to check out her Kintsugi Art board, you will find it HERE.

SEND CARDS TO: This week our destination is each other! Once a month, we send our cards to each other!

Check out the thread with a green arrow icon in the Teapot Tuesday Extras forum. (I'll add a direct link in the next post, but until the site bugs are fixed I cannot edit this thread and retain any sanity). If you are participating in the card exchange please go to that thread and follow the instructions. Make sure to sign up by bedtime on Saturday 29th (yes, we're leaping this year) Feb 2020. Your destination recipient will be PM'd to you on Sunday.

I will also link Jean's card in the second post of this thread...

Quick Link to today’s Teapot Tuesday Challenge Gallery: MMTPT605

Be sure to you use KEYWORD MMTPT605 in your upload and post a comment here so we can all see your card!

Do you know someone that could use some well wishes, encouragement or all around warm fuzzies? Consider nominating them as a guest of honor (a.k.a. destination station) for an upcoming tea party. Send your request to jacqueline via PM or e-mail [email protected]. Include SCS Teaparty Request in the subject line.

Awesome Challenge, Jean - I am going to have to make a few more of these to go to some "broken" friends along with the history which is a beautiful story of rebirth to a stronger more beautiful version of oneself.

MMTPT605 Have Faith!

Jean this was a great challenge!! This is one of the very few I have
done since my cataract surgery. I have not been fitted for glasses yet,
so I do not know if this photo is clear or not. I hope it is. LOL
