MMTPT542 ~ December 11th, 2018 ~ Modern Technology
WELCOME TO TEAPOT TUESDAY CHALLENGE MMTPT542
“Modern Technology”
Anyone is welcome to play in the weekly Teapot Challenge - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a “TEApotter” the first time you play. Where will you find inspiration? Will it be from the teapot or from the challenge theme itself? Remember, your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not a requirement. Just have fun!
Today, December 11, is National APP Day
National App Day is observed annually on December 11. The word “App” was listed as the word of the year in 2010 by the American Dialect Society. Short for Software Application, apps quickly appeared as our mobile cellular phones incorporated smart technologies including processing chips, internet connectivity and touchscreens. Since that time apps have changed how we work, live and play. They have created thousands of new companies, millions of new jobs and billions of dollars in revenue.
HISTORY
National App Day was submitted to and accepted by the Registrar at National Day Calendar in December 2017 by CJ Thompson, founder of Platinum Edge Media. The purpose of National App Day is to celebrate the importance of apps as they change our collective culture by organically promoting creativity and innovation. Apps accelerated in growth with the advent of Apple’s iPhone in 2007. In 2008 Apple introduced OS 2.0, which included approximately 500 apps and allowed third-party app generation. Today there are over 2 million apps on both the Apple and Android platforms and thousands more introduced daily.
Challenge:Use something on your card which makes you think about all these applications we've got on our cell phones, or use an image about modern technology, you could use a map thinking about google maps and so on, just make it masculine for Nick.
Destination Station:
Our request this week comes from Judy aka JRHolbrook. Nick has been in a medically induced coma for over a month. He was originally diagnosed with pneumonia after going to the doctor for severe flu-like symptoms. After moving through 3 different hospitals, he is now in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at a major hospital in St.Paul, MN. Nick was eventually diagnosed with Blastomycosis, a severe pulmonary fungal infection in his lungs. An illness that can only be contracted in a moist wooded soil near waterways. Nick is 36 years old and was strong and healthy going into this so doctors are confident he can survive this; however, it's a slow process and his recovery process is expected to be several months long. Let's show our support for Nick and his family by sending a bunch of cards to help him find force and courage on this long healing way, Nick is conscious now and I'm sure he'll love to get mail from all of us.
Send your cards to:
Nick Sonnen
805 5th Street South
Stillwater, MN55082
USA
Here is my card: MY CARD
Here is a quick link to the MMTPT542gallery
Be sure to use KEYWORD MMTPT542 in your upload and post a comment here so we can all see your card!
Do you know someone that could use some well wishes, encouragement or all around warm fuzzies? Consider nominating them as a guest of honor (a.k.a. destination station) for an upcoming tea party. Post your request HERE or send a PM to jacqueline.

Here's mine: MMTPT542 Road to Recovery
In case anyone is wondering why I thought about stars and guitars, an app I would love to be able to use is one of the star chart ones, but we have too much light pollution here to see many stars. Maybe I'll install one before our camping holiday next year! And DH 's most-used app is probably a guitar tuner. Mine would be Solitaire, not making for a very exciting card. I wished I could have got the three parallel lines and the little pin like in Google maps, to use in my overlay, but I was too tired to go looking when they weren't in Character Map.
Oh, and when DH's friend dropped DH's motorbike off here a couple of weeks back after putting a new tyre on, he did indeed set out from here with his phone on the handlebars of his own bike and Google Maps running to take him to his next, unfamiliar, destination. It was raining, but he assured me that the fairing was enough to protect the phone!!?!?

Even without your explanations I recognized the apps you've chosen, and your card reflects really what I meant with this challenge, be inspired by what you use or what you would like to use!!

This pic is for you, Sabrina. This is our cabin in Maine where there is no light pollution. Can even see the Milky Way.
Thanks for the challenge, Anita. Here is my card for Nick.

Anita this was a great challenge. However the biggest latest technology I have is my Caption Call Phone. When I make a call, a closed caption typist types what the other person tells me, and then I just speak in the receiver to talk back. I put my greetings to Nick on the reading platform. I also made an envelope to go with it.

Thanks, Anita, for the interesting info. I immediately knew which stamps I could use in this challenge and they came together almost instantly. I just might make another one of these. MMTPT542 Brain Cell

I have an idea and can't wait to get home and put it on paper. Great news that Nick is conscious now. I'm sure a great relief to his family.

I've been without internet for over a week and it is great to see all the cards made for Nick! Thank you all so much from his family and Nick. He calls his homemade cards his "my little cards" and points them out to visitors and nurses. His sister has put up the homemade cards on the wall in a special area!

Another update and correction: Nick calls all our homemade cards his little ones. He is doing much better, he has had restraints and trach tube removed which is a huge deal for him! Now, onto rehabilitation phase when he is moved to another facility next week.
Thank you all so much for the cards! Nick loves looking at them!

Thanks to all of you for playing in my challenge and for those who've send a card from their stash, I know you're all busy and preparing Christmas so I'm glad you took a moment to send Nick a card.
Hugs to all!!

Gracie I hope my card arrives before Nick goes to rehab. Mail from Australia can take 3 weeks - and that's without Christmas. I mailed it on the 12Dec. So good to hear he is progressing and I love that he calls our Teapotter cards his "little ones".

Just an FYI about the address for Nick. He has been moved so many times that the address is his sister's home so that she can be sure he gets his cards!
Again, thank you to everyone! Another note, some of the nurses have threatened to keep his beautiful cards.

I am playing my "Challenge Catch-up" cardmaking and catching up on my SCS postings.
The date of this challenge is National APP Day, short for software applications, thus the theme to make a card that brings to mind modern cell phone technology. My inspiration was the thought: In this modern day, do you think Santa has a cell phone to keep in touch with the North Pole?
I'm late to the party so this card...A Christmas card, will go to a family member who is quite handy with modern day technology.
Here is my card: Santa's Sleigh Tag Christmas!
