WELCOME TO TEAPOT TUESDAY
THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING TEAPARTY
AND CHALLENGE #410
MMTPT410 Fire! Fire!
Note: Anyone is welcome to play! You automatically become a Teapotter the first time you play in our challenge. Also, you do not have to write a story. You just have to be inspired by the teapot or by the story about this week's location! Have fun! If this is your first Teapot Tuesday Challenge, please mention that in your commentary so we can be sure to greet you properly, in pure Teapot Tuesday fashion! Your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not at all required. Just have fun!
Faith (yabbadodo) is our guest hostess for the Tickle challenge this month. Here is her story:
This is not your usual Teaparty story, but it is in the middle of the existence of Alberta at this time. On May 1st a wildfire started outside of Fort McMurray, AB and within 6 days had destroyed 565,000 acres of land, more than 2400 buildings with the damage estimated at over 9 billion dollars. The whole city of Fort McMurray was evacuated, a total of 88,000 people. Nobody knows when these people will be able to return.
Through all of this the Canadian spirit has shone through. Good Samaritans have been running convoys of supplies to evacuees. Donations of necessity are flooding in. Calgary and Edmonton have opened areas for evacuees and private homes have also offered places to stay. Firefighters and police have come from all over Canada to assist in the fight against the fire. Airlines offered free flights to the people and also sent planes in to rescue animals that had to be left behind. Fort McMurray is way north and has only one highway into it and the fire at times was right beside it and jumping across, so it was very difficult for people to evacuate with miles of vehicles lined bumper to bumper.
It is so wonderful to see the caring spirit of others come through when it is most needed. This is what makes me very thankful that I live in a country like Canada where people come together in times of need.
CHALLENGE TRANSLATION: make cards depicting firefighters, police, neighbors helping each other. EPEC: : include the name Canada.
DESTINATION STATION: This week our destination is each other! Once a month, we send our cards to each other! A little payback and reward to the teapotters for always sending their cards to the recipient of the Destination Station.

DH kept asking me if it was for a child. Well, I didn't have much that worked for the challenge, so I'll be sending an extra "adult" card in with this to whomsoever I end up tickling. It was fun to make.
Thanks for a great challenge, Faith. Having once had a fire in the same apartment block (4 apartments only) that we were living in at the time, I sure do appreciate the work firemen carry out!
Lovely idea Faith. Reminded me of 2003 when we had the big fire here. Hope they get it down soon. I know it will be months before finished. They work so hard during fire season especially. Always admire them. Thanks for the challenge !

Canada has suffered such great loss due to fires and this week we are making encouraging cards due to that situation. Extra cookies if we put the name of Canada on our card (mine is on the fire truck). Faith my heart goes out to the people in Canada.

Thank you Faith for choosing this theme. The pictures coming out of Fort McMurray have been unbelievable. My heart goes out to all those residents and the brave firefighters and responders.
