Welcome to Teapot Tuesday
the Sisterhood of the Traveling Teaparty
and Challenge #312

You Get a Line, And I'll Get a Pole; We'll go Down to the Fishin Hole

Note: Anyone is welcome to play! You automatically become a Teapotter the first time you play in our challenge. Also, you do not have to write a story. You just have to be inspired by the teapot or by the story about this week's location! Have fun! If this is your first Teapot Tuesday Challenge, please mention that in your commentary so we can be sure to greet you properly, in pure Teapot Tuesday fashion! Your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not at all required. Just have fun!

The Rest of the Story:

1: Fishing is one of the greatest known hobbies and as any good angler can tell you, it's a little about skill and a lot about luck with a good measure of perseverance thrown in. There are as many hook and bait, lure, or fly combinations as there are anglers and each angler has his preferred type. Many even make their own baits, and tie their own flies in order to catch the elusive "big one" and to keep the secret formula to themselves. On the lakes and streams of the world, anglers have been casting their lines for centuries and the sport hasn't really changed all that much. And the rush you get when you get a fighter on the line can't be beat.

2: During the lazy days of summer, in the south; you can usually find the Tupelo boys down at the river casting flies and telling lies. The 3 of them have been known to fish all day and into the night if the fish are biting. This summer has so far been like any other but things are heating up as the local bait shop has quite the contest going to find a new spokesperson for their brand of baits and hand made flies. Each of the brothers fancies himself the perfect one for the job and is on a mission to bring in the biggest and most fish before the deadline. Problem with this is; they've fished together for all their lives and they know each others habits and preferences so well that each of them are having a hard time coming up with that perfect bait to get an edge over the other two.

3: When one of them thinks he has come up with the perfect thing, one of the others comes up with something that brings in more fish, or when one thinks he's gotten up earlier than the others to get a head start, he finds one of them already at the shore fishing away. They are getting themselves worked into quite the little sparring match and no one seems to making any headway. The wives have had about enough of this nonsense and together they decided on a new strategy and they have laid down the law: The guys will get along and join forces together, entering in the group category. The guys weren't to happy about this at first but they also know that when the little women puts her foot down, it's best to go along or their fishing time might suddenly be curtailed. So with much grumbling, they agreed.

4: The bait shop owners realize that they will have to have impartial recorders in order to make things fair to all. Each angler will have to register and at the end of the fishing session, call in his location so that the recorders can meet him to document the catch. The recorders must be able to find their own way, be able to document efficiently, and be able to cut through the nonsense to the facts. So Teapotters, this is our mission if you choose to accept it. The bait shop owners have promised us a big fish fry at the end as well as lessons for any wishing to beat the Tupelo boys the next time around.

Challenge Translation:

Bring buckets, line, flies, and reels. Bring rods, bobbers, and weights. Whatever you might need to help them bring in the big one. But no live bait for this one or you go to the back door for sure.

EPEC-extra points for extra cookeis:

Bring a few fish too, just in case the boys aren't having much luck.

TY so much for this!!! My step-dad will be thrilled!!!

My card will be in later this afternoon, with the honest-to-God true story behind it. Maybe a tiny, itsy-bitsy bit exaggerated, but just barely. ;)

Joe is a terrific guy. He has taught bible study for over 25 years at his church, and was married to his wife over 40 years, until she succumbed to colorectal cancer. My mom-also a widow-and he met, and they fell for each other immediately. He took me and my kids in and treated us the same as his other kids/grandkids. No favoritism on Papa Joe's part!!

He had a valve replacement in his heart several years ago. He was doing fine until a couple of months ago, when he became easily fatigued. It turned out to be congestive heart failure, so they planted this device in his heart to deliver a shock if it stops.

Before they implanted it, he carried around this bag for several weeks, containing the equipment to deliver a shock, if necessary. He and my mom stopped at a yard sale, and this woman said "That's what I need! A purse that size to carry my stuff in!" We STILL laugh about that!!

I know that CHF isn't a diagnosis that leaves any hope of getting better. That being said, I think Joe is very lucky. See, we ALL come to an end. Joe was given enough notice to do the things he wants to do. He can make amends, if necessary, and spend his time in the places he wishes and with the people he wants to be with. All while not suffering from constant pain or painful treatments. He quietly goes to work and church and loves being with my mom and our combined families. I hope I'm that lucky! Until then, when I get caught up in being angry or holding a grudge or generally making the bad decisions I apparently LOVE to make (insert eye-roll here) I can take a step back...like I'm doing as I write this...and thank the Lord for all of the special people in my life. Including YOU ladies. I never realized how much people could come to mean in my life that I haven't even met!!! Y'all provide a support, encouragement and laughter with such consistency like I've never experienced. You're all quick to send a card, a hug and lend an ear. I'm so grateful for each and every one of you.

Now, I'm all teary and if I mess up this panel I've already watercolored, then I'm going to be very unhappy with all of you for being so wonderful that you make me cry. That's right...I will hold ALL of you responsible. ;)

Much love to all of you and many, many thanks to the Jesus and His Father, for guiding us here and bringing us together. I love you all!! MWAAAAH!!! BIG HUGS!!

I have a stamp I'll use for this if I can. But my work rota was switched around and that's messed my week up a bit because I already had a couple of other engagements lined up. If I don't get a card made and in the gallery I will send this which was one of my favourite cards from the last VSN and seems to be very apt.

Sweetie, you're a world away! Don't worry about it! You're so sweet to do that and it's gorgeous...just like all your work! :) This will be perfect. We all have enough on our plate and the fact he will get a card from Ireland will thrill him to no end. Thank you and big hugs to you!!

Carmen, I am very late with my card for your Dad, Joe, but I just returned to making TPer cards after being absent for over two months. It isn't exactly a "fishing" card but I hope it will bring him some cheer.

SEA You Soon

Thanks for looking! :)
