Red face *FULL* Weight loss group/swap

Here we go! 2009 is just around the corner so it's time to start thinking about how we are going to actually keep our New Years Resolution to lose that baby weight and keep it off for good!
If you are one of these people, you are welcome to our club/swap. I would like to keep this club/swap cozy so I think I will stop at 25 people. That way we don't get too confused in here and are sure to encourage each other and so forth!

RULES:
-You must of course want to lose weight
-You must be positive towards others
-You must be open and honest (no cheaters allowed!)
-You must be willing to share ideas, thoughts, encouragement, goals, feelings and anything else that comes to mind!

REQUIREMENTS: (I guess that's kind of like rules huh!)
-Every two weeks (at least) you must check in to this thread and post your progress, even if you have none!
-You need to set goals, small goals, obtainable goals
-You need to set an ULTIMATE goal (how much in total you would like to lose)

FUN STUFF:
-I personally will be sending each and every one of you a small gift for each goal you have obtained. I feel it's important to be rewarded and also that you reward yourself.
-I would like to do a few swaps anything from recipes, images, encouragment cards, nutritional goodies swap. Whatever you all come up with that we all can agree on.
-You are more than welcome to host a swap or let me know what you want to swap and I will host it. I have not hosted many swaps so I think I can keep up with this since I don't have to juggle many different swaps at once. That means for you....more of my attention....and who wouldn't want more of MY attention!!! LOL!

Start Date:
January 1st 2009~you need to post your current weight and if you would like you can also include your measurements!
Ladies, this is not the place to be shy! We are all here for the same reason. I know it can be hard to share personal information like this (believe me...I am afraid to let you all know exactly what I weigh) but it helps us to be accountable and to let others see our Wonderful progress!
End Date:
When you have reached your ultimate goal

So how does this sound to everyone? Let me know if you have questions, concerns or you think I should add or change something!

I love your idea but I have never been able to keep up with a diet or exercise plan. I always mean well but then life gets in the way.

I could really use this. I don't have baby weight, just weight from over the years. I've got lots of goals and would love the extra support so count me in. Let me know when/what other information you need from me!

I'm in girl! Ok I'll have to weigh myself but I'm pretty sure I'm 180. Right now (by summer) I want to get down to 160. Once I do that then I will go from there as far as loosing more.

I have a yummy turkey chili recipe I'm going to share with all of you. I will post it tonight after I get home. It's a WW recipe that my sister got.

I'm so glad you all are going to do this with me. I know it's hard to put out there your "number". Believe me, but...it's just a number right! And the best part, is that it's going to go DOWN! Please, please don't be afraid of the number. I told my BFF that if I needed to, I would take a picture of myself in a bikini and post it to get you all to be okay with your "number". And believe me...you don't want to see me in a bikini!!!!! I don't want to see myself in a bikini!!! LOL!

We will give our Start weight on the 1st! Just a tip: try doing it first thing in the morning after you have gone to the bathroom, and I weight myself naked because, well, clothes add weight!!! LOL!

Nobody wants a picture of me in a bikini either, but you know I might take a picture of myself just for me to motivate. You know just looking at yourself in a mirror is different than a picture for some reason.

I'm a huge fan of the Biggest Loser and my dad and I are doing a little competition between the two of us so you ladies will help a lot! I've got good recipe's from their cookbook and I'm starting with a personal trainer on the 19th of January so I'll send the tips your way!

Okay, I am in! My goal is 23 lbs lost. I currently weigh 148 and hope to weigh 125. I have started a 70 day challenge. I eat 1200 calories per day, exercise each (and every) day, and I drink 8 glasses of water and don't eat after 7:30 pm (no exceptions). I give myself 1 point for each thing. At the end of 70 days, I get $1 per point and $1 for each lb lost. The money will be used to buy new clothes. That's my 70 challenge. If I was 100% on my goal, I would get $300 to spend on new clothes on March 15th... Not a bad deal!

That would not be a bad deal at all!! The exercise tends to be my biggest struggle.

I just clicked on this thread and I had to post what a great idea! I am so determined to lose weight this year. I'm so over weight to begin with plus I'm expecting my third baby in just 4 weeks. I've tried so hard not to gain any weight with this baby. I did gain 9 pounds so far, so not too bad I guess. My Doctor told me now is not the time to start dieting.

Posting my current weight is going to kill me, but what the heck, right? Sign me up!

This seems like such a great idea, but I weigh more than twice what I should and I'm not sure I want to post my weight! Or screw up again and hate myself for that...

Oh My!! I'm glad I checked and came over to this since you are limiting it to 20!!!! KACopan wanted a spot too if I recall from the other list so hold one for her!

I'm in definitely. And (GULP) Here is my data:
start weight: 232
current weight: 232 (What is the difference between this and the start weight?)
weight loss goal: 62 lbs by end of year.

Now I know this may seem like a lot so I may have to rethink it, but that is about a pound a week, plus a few.

I don't have any baby weight excuse. And I'd lost 30 lbs before I moved to WV but then didn't have my gym membership anymore, or my friends to push me to go anymore, and was commuting long distances, sitting all day at work with only 30 min lunches, and on top of all that, went from being single to having a DH and twin girls (all of whom have metabolisms that allow them to eat tons and still look rail thin as do all their relatives here, AND there are no healthy restaurants here... its all 'home cookin'').

SO there's my list of excuses out of the way. :P
I have lost the most when I don't eat anything after 3pm really, unless starving then I eat a piece of fruit. I really don't eat that badly now, only take in about 1400 calories a day to begin with, but my downfall is sitting at a desk all day, and no exercise.

I bought an elliptical machine last year which is overrun by my craft area right now, but my goal is to clear that up by next weekend. And I bought DH a weight bench to share for Christmas. I have all the videos and equipment, including balance balls, free weights, exercise mat, etc. And books galore on diets and such... including recipes and charts. I can say I've probably tried at least 2 dozen 'diets' over the years, including hiring personal trainers, etc. and nothing really worked. I did find out a few years back however that I have cysts on my thyroid and one doctor summed it to me saying that my metabolism is so focused on keeping those minimized that it doesn't function normally to help me lose weight really, but the alternative is that the cysts haven't grown at all.
I've considered also that I'd like to try the Praise diet/exercise plan -- has anyone tried that? Its the biblical study one... I'm not sure of the name.

My big start is to decrease soda intake to only special occasions, no more than 2 8oz. sodas in a week. (That is a big step for me since I'm a Pepsi-aholic, and often have a 24 oz. bottle at 9am to start it off.)

What is everyone else's FIRST BIG STEP?

Okay, I think I'll join. Thank you for the encouragement LaLatty!

My ultimate weight loss goal is to weigh 150 lbs or less. My short term goal is to lose 10 pounds from Jan 1 to Apr 1. Small goal, but I work for an accounting firm and will be working long hours doing taxes during that period.

I was diagnosed with Diabetes last spring and have taken several Diabetes Education classes since then. Learned a lot, and it helped at first. But, I have a long term history of depression and antidepressants are only mildly helpful. I let the depression get the better of me and quit all the good habits I'd started, exercising, checking my blood sugar, etc.

So, my big first step will be two part, first will be to start walking again no later than January 1st, with my wall chart and pedometer. My goal through 4/15 will be 6000-7000 steps or equivalent (work up to 10,000 after 4/15), at least 5 days a week. (I may need to work up to the step count at first.) Every week that I meet my goal I get $5 in "Copic Currency".

The second first step will be to keep a food and blood sugar diary and honestly record what I eat, how I feel, etc.

Thank you in advance, my fellow cheerleaders!

Okay, everyone has put up their goals/ideas so here's mine.

Currently I'm about about 256 and while granted I'm 5'9" that's still about 80 pounds more than I should be. I have my ten year class reunion this summer so that's my motivator. My goal is to loose 1% of my body weight each week until I hit 180. After that if I feel good I may decide to try to loose more, but I'm going with 1%. Also after I start with my personal trainer Januaty 19th my goal is to spend a minimum of 1/2 hour in the gym 3 times a week until the end of February. Then I'll reasses and possibly change that one. I'm gonna try to keep track of Weigh Watchers points too. My mom's got all the materials so no money for me, but hopefully it'll help.

Hiya ladies!

My name is AnnMarie and I would love to be a part of this group! I currently weigh 173 (ugh!!) and want to get back down to 135 (but would even settle for 140!). I guess I am kind of unique in that I don't really mind the exercise part of the whole deal-y-o, but the eating 'right' is what kicks my booty every darn time! I am a sweet (chocolate!) junkie and have very little will power! I have already began mentally preparing for change after the 1st though!

So, sign me up! I am so excited! : )

AnnMarie : )

Great! I'm so glad that you decided to join with us. It's nice to know that we are not alone. My mother and my sister both have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, so I totally understand.

I will join. My current weight is 217. Goal weight 160 - 170 so 47-57 pounds. Thanks for having this as an incentive to begin losing the weight and to have other people to commiserate with.
My biggest problem is getting to the gym. Several months ago the morning person asked to take my picture. It was 4am and I hadn't showered (prettied up) for going to the gym so I said no. For the next month I was asked every time I walked in the door and I continued to say no because they never asked my husband to take his picture and he went more often than I do. No one could explain why I was being told a picture was needed on file but he wasn't. I have now convinced myself that they have intimidated me and I no longer want to go to that gym but can't cancel membership since it is for 3 years. I dread the next time I walk in the door that they will ask to take my picture. I know I'm being unreasonable, but feel if they needed my picture on file they should have taken it when I joined and not start insisting one be on file 6 months after the fact.

I'm in!! I need a good kick in the bottom. I will have to weigh myself and post later. But I am looking at my goal weight being 130lbs.

I've got an eliptical trainer and a new bowflex waiting for me to start working out on!!! Can't wait.

Soda! That's my big downfall and I think this is the first thing I'm going to work on. I need to stop drinking the soda and drink more water.

I was watching Good Morning America a few weeks ago and there was a story on about weight loss and soda. The segment went on to talk about the connection of diet soda and weight gain. They mentioned that if we were to stop drinking soda (even if you didn't change any other dieting habits) you could lose up to 25 pounds in just one year.

Well, I have to run. I am getting ready to go to my monthly stamping class. Have a great rest of the day!

Hiya!

I agree! They should quit hounding you about a photo! That is kind of a crappy way to encourage their members to remain members! You should gussy yourself up all pretty...hair and make up and take your own photo! Then you could take that picture in with you next time you go to give to them! : ) One of my favorite quotes of all time is by Eleanor Roosevelt "No
one can make you feel inferior without your consent!" It is so true! Thumb your nose at those silly gym folks and go work out if that is what makes you feel good! Don't let anyone stand in your way! : ) You can do it! : )

I soooo hear you on the soda! I am a Dr. Pepper queen! LOVE it! That is the first thing I plan to cut back on and hopefully out! Baby steps and all of that!
I also struggle with water intake...so I plan to try to increase water too!

I would say if they can't tell you WHY they need a picture on file they don't need it. Don't let them intimidate you though!! In fact I would talk to management next time they try that. It's too bad you can't threaten them with the "I'll take my business elsewhere," but you can certainly cause some grief.

Just saw this article on Yahoo.:

http://health.yahoo.com/experts/eatt...out-diet-soda/

One thing for me, I hate diet soda and would rather drink water than that. I noticed that when I cut soda out of my diet, that 'roll' of fat that sits over my pelvis area decreases, so that is the big first no doubt for me!!!

thanks for "saving" me a spot susan!!! and thanks for the PM too!!!

i'm SOOOOOO DEFINITELY IN!!!!!!! and i don't normally weigh myself because i'm disgusted with the numbers but i'll go do it to get a more accurate start weight!! but here's the numbers i guesstimate (from when i last weighed myself about 2 months ago...)

start weight: 185
current weight: 185
weight loss goal: 135-140 (-45 to -50 lbs!!)

i'm 5'6" and i USED to be athletic... my family has big bones so even if i am bone skinny i'd still weigh more than i look... so i don't mind having a little weight on me, i'd just like to be able to fit the same clothes i wore in high school (which for me, isn't that far off!!! i graduated in '00) when DH and i started dating my senior year i was a size 5-7, now i'm a 12-14. so i guess my goal is to get back down to the same size moreso than to lose all the weight!

but TBH, in losing all the weight, i'm scared i'll loose my boobage!!! hahaha i started at a full B/small C before #1 was born, and after he was born (even after i stopped BF'ing) I was at a full C/small D

i hate running, don't like to sweat anymore, and LOVE LOVE LOVE food. i know one of the big things to do is to cut out carbs but here in hawaii we are all about the rice... almost every meal includes rice. one of the good things though is that since i started baking cookies like a madwoman for christmas gifts/parties, i have been soooooooo sick of them i haven't been craving sweets.

the hard part for me with the "baby weight" is that i have a condition called hyperemesis gravarium which is basically extreme nausea and vomiting (only during pregnancy)... at about 6 wks i start to get more and more nauseous, throw up more and more, be able to eat less and less... i end up bedridden on IV fluids (10 hours a day!) and usually in the ER every month for emergency rehydration and it doesn't stop until about 5-6 months. with both pregnancies i lost 30 lbs in about 3 weeks and with #2 it was so bad that i literally didn't consume ANYTHING (food or liquid) for almost 3 months. both kiddos were perfectly healthy and growing normally btw (they live off your fat stores). so once i am able to eat I EAT UP!!!!!!!!!! never had a problem gaining back that weight!!!

thanks for starting this thread april!! when everyone's signed up can we compile addresses so i can send out some motivators every once in a while too??

Years ago around the time I met my current DH I had lost 20-30 lbs. I was getting up each morning and doing sit-ups/push-ups with my dad. I also started parking at the back of the parking lot and taking stairs instead of elevator anytime I went anywhere. It's easy to park at the back of the lot because there is always plenty of parking!

I don't know about giving up soda, but I agree it needs to be done. I also should probably give up the morning white mocha or at least get a smaller size and non-fat milk.

I had my DH bring in a couple cases of water to see if that would help me increase my intake of water. I was drinking one bottle then refilling throughout the day. That lasted about a week. I will try to get back on the water wagon starting today.

I definitely need this.......... sign me up.......... I'm definitely the heaviest here... and not really sure I want it posted on the internet.. but... okay - will post on January 1

Short Term Goal: 15 lbs by February 1st
Long Term Goal: 100 lbs by December 31st

My biggest problem is sweets. I'm a chocoholic... I NEED chocolate... there are some days (when I'm really cranky) where my husband just puts a chocolate bar down, doesn't say a word and walks away... LOL...

I am also an extremely picky eater... so I struggle with "diets" because I don't eat most of the food they want me to eat.

I will get back to going to the gym 4 mornings a week - I love it - but when I started working full time - I was just too tired to get up that early.

Hopefully we can all help each other. I'm looking forward to this... I'm ready to take control of my life.

I have a heck of a lot of sweets to eat or get rid of in the next three days!!

Wow so much chitter chatter since I left work. April is going to be sad that she is sleeping while we are all chatting (she is in Germany.)

So I have an idea, why don't we all share a fav lo-cal recipe. I know sometimes that can be my hardest thing is finding what to fix for the family for dinner that won't kill me.

I'm a chocoholic, too! And I know what you mean about NEEDing it. That's the toughest part of managing diabetes at all for me (when I care, I haven't cared for a couple of months so I haven't even tried). My long term goal is bigger than yours, but I'm not posted my start weight until the 1st either.
