Default Newbie--question

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie and was looking at the for sale for trade page and noticed that sometimes people will answer a post with just the word "bump" why do they do this?

Hi! Nice to *meet* you (I'm fairly new here too!)

They "bump" to keep their topic/swap/etc. near the top of the listings so that it will get noticed. You'll see it in some swaps too when they are signing up sometimes.

They will also just put a smiley face sometimes.

They just want to bring their posts back up to the top so people will see them. It is effective! The posts fly right off the main page or even the 1st page in the forum so quickly sometimes.
