Smile New to stampin'

Just wanted to say hi to all of you. I'm excited about this new hobby that I was introduced to over Thanksgiving weekend. I was so thrilled with it that I got on the ball and made my Christmas cards for the first time. Anyway, I do have a question...

What is Pearl Ex? I was looking at some of the gallery cards and I noticed this was brought up in several of them. It sounds like you can really get creative with it.

Thanks,
Kerri (Lynnwood, WA- if anyone's nearby!)

Hi Kerri~ I don't know a lot about Pearl Ex, but I at least wanted to say "Hi!!" and "welcome!!" I do know that Pearl Ex is a pigmented powder that you can use with a Versamark pad (for example) to add color or a metallic shimmer to your creations. I've played with it a little. You can also use it with most any medium, applying it to wood, scrapbooks, candles, etc. Try doing a search on the SCS gallery...I know there are some awesome cards on here where Pearl Ex is used. Have fun!!

Hello and welcome from Northeastern Ohio. I've seen some wonderful things done with Pearl Ex, but haven't tried it myself.

Default Pearl Ex

Pearl Ex is fun and can be used in many ways. A few examples of how to use them are:
  • With Versamark
  • On Heat & Stick powder
  • On Polymer Clay
  • Mixed into embossing powder
  • Applied directly to card stock with blender pen
  • Mixed with lumiere to make a paint

You can use a Swiffer to clean up the excess mess that the powder leaves.

Hope that helps. I am sure there are more ways to use it. Try it, you'll love it.

Hi and welcome! There are tons of great ways to use Pearl Ex. Most often I use my aqua painter filled with liquid floor wax, dip it in my Pearl Ex, and then color my image. It leaves a nice shiny effect. Enjoy and feel free to ask more questions, everyone is very helpful on SCS!

Pearl Ex is the brand name of a powdered pigment that is shimmery. It does not come with a "binder" in it so you can't just brush with it on cardstock without using something to make it "stick" -- you can use some of the ideas mentioned above or make it into a paint by mixing some into regular acrylic paint or by adding water and gum arabic. You can get Pearl Ex through SU, but also through many on line and local craft stores. A little goes a LONG way.

Thank you for all your help and tips!! I just wanted to clarify then in regards to my first Pearl Ex question... Is Pearl Ex the same thing as embossing powder?

I'll have to look for it the next time I'm out.

Thank you to all of your kind welcomes!

Pearl Ex is not the same as embossing powder. They are very different.
