Default Just hi

Hi everyone - I'm Beth, have been reading here for a while and thought I'd say hi. I'm in Virginia near DC and MD, am lucky to have a LSS nearby that has great workshops, and am new to all this {waving at the astonishing amount of paper/stamps/embellishments/ink/etc. that's accumulated in an astonishingly short time} in my sorta/kinda semi-retirement. I've also been playing with Gelli plating and mixed media/art journaling. Kind of.

I'm off to search for the best place in the forum to post about how to possibly find/beg/buy a couple of 2014 SSS stamps. Longshot, right?

Thank you for your answers, humor and caring.

Hi Beth! I'm a huge Gelli Plate fan as well - be sure and check out our Friday mixed media challenge, and if you post in the ISO forum for those SSS stamps you might get lucky!

Welcome to Splitcoast!

Thank you, Lydia! I will search for InSearchOf as well as the challlenge. And so neat to hear other Gelli-ists are here!

Hi and welcome from New Zealand! I am also dabbling in art journalling and mixed medai, as well as stamping and cardmaking. So much fun!

Hi Stephanie in New Zealand! Neat you're mixing it all up. I'm such a novice, but it's addictive. My LSS has an instructor who teaches a monthly 2-hour mixed media journal class, so that will help me. : )

Hi Beth, addictive is right! I have bought a couple of art journalling books by Dina Wakely and I watch YouTube Videos by Dina as well as by mixed-media artists, Gina Ahrens and JournalArtista. All very inspiring! That is great you have access to classes.

Hi Beth! Welcome from Houston! I have discovered mixed media recently and I am in love with it, I have watched so many videos of the gelli plate but haven't had the courage to try it yet , but the texture paste with stencil got me hooked, so happy to have you here! Hugs, Alba

Hi Alba, and thanks! Funny, I just tried texture paste for the first time at a LSS a few weeks ago, and plan to try some today with a stencil. : )

Hi, Beth, and it's so nice to "meet" you and learn a little about you. Yes, the "stash" sure does accumulate in a short time, and I know you will enjoy seeing all the great ideas and friendships here. On Friday, there is a Mix-Ability challenge that you might find intriguing and want to consider trying. There is a great stamper I got to know and actually played with about a year ago when she visited me here in FL while on vacation. She actually showed my stamping friend and me how to use the gelli plate - oh my, what fun! You can check out her gallery here along with a particularly lovely tag I liked here. She is a lot of fun and loves to share. Feel free to pm her with any questions. So glad to see you chatting a lot here - hehe! Hugs!

Hi Cheryl! Thanks for mentioning the mm challenge and giving me your friend's link. And Alba, I found Patti Parrish's youtube videos wonderful for getting the courage just dive in, not that I think you need courage, given your work!

In one of the workshops, we made tiny mini-books (3.5x2.5") out of Gelli prints. Pages were made from index cards. I've also woven strips of Gelli prints. One thing I've learned is that no matter how much you don't like a print, there will be something in it worth cutting out that makes you go, "wow." ; )

Hi, Beth! It's nice to see you found such great YouTube videos. A friend of mine here (stiz2003) loves doing gelli prints and also says that there is always something worth using in them and keeps all of them including the scraps. I have some when she visited me, and I need to pull them out again sometime. Big hugs!
